Hey @Katzsam35, thanks for reaching out to us.
The 'save to my Dropbox' option isn't really gone, it's just changed places.
When opening a link, there should be a 'File' option at the top left. If you click that, you'll see a 'copy to Dropbox' option.
I hope this helps!
Hmm, would you mind sending us a screenshot of the options you see?
Hi @Katzsam35, you can click the camera icon to attach an image, or you can copy and paste the screenshot in your next reply.
Hi,
I am also experiencing this issue with the Dropbox app in iOS.
I would open a shared link with me and the "save to my dropbox" button on the upper right corner is gone. The only options I have are either to "save to (my phone)" or "export". The "save (a copy) to my dropbox" option is still available if I open the link in the desktop version/web browser.
Thanks,
Ina
Below is a screenshot of a sample link opened in iOS - the "save to dropbox" option used to be where the red box is.
Below screenshot shows that the same link, when opened on the desktop, provides the "save to dropbox" option:
Hi @thorgi, how are you today?
I tested the same thing on my end, and when I try to access a link, I can see the "Save to my Dropbox" on the bottom right corner of the app.
Can you walk me through the steps that you follow on your end, in order to open the link?
Keep me posted!
The links are usually shared via Instagram app, I'd click the link and it would normally first open the link with the in-app browser within Instagram. I'd click on "open in external browser" and it would redirect/open the Dropbox app to the folder content like that screenshot I sent. Up until maybe a month ago, the "save to my dropbox" option was available on the top right of the screenshot I sent. I'd be able to click on that and choose where in my Dropbox I want to save it to but that is no longer an option in the iOS app for me.
I've checked that there are no updates in the App store for the iOS app. I did recently update to iOS 17 so I'm not sure if it's related. My device is currently on iOS ver 17.0.3.
Hi @thorgi, odd.
I followed the exact same steps, and when the link opens in the external browser, and then within the app it gives me the option to save to my account.
If you copy the link, and paste it directly within your browser, does it then give you the option to open it within the app? And provided that it does, can you see the option there?
Feel free to send me a few more screenshots, please.
Hello @thorgi, what you are seeing is likely the new folder link sharing experience that was rolled out last month. For more information on the change, see this post https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Latest-news/Updates-Coming-to-the-Folder-Link-Sharing-Experience/td-p/705156
There is a known gap that the iOS app does not yet support “Join Folder”. This is something our team is actively looking into and hope to release in the coming months. We will follow-up on this thread when it is released. In the meantime, if you wish to join the folder as a view-only member, or to save a copy, please use web for now.
Happy to answer any follow-up question you may have, and thanks in advance for your understanding as we work to bring this to the iOS app.
Hi @yidanz,
Gotcha, that explains the sudden disappearance of the button/feature.
Will this new sharing experience still have the save a copy option or is that feature permanently gone for good and we'll only be able to join the folder once fully rolled out? If the latter, what happens if you join a folder and the folder owner removes it from their end?
The save a copy option is currently available on web. This is something we will look to explore on mobile (both iOS and Android), although we don't have a timeline for it just yet.
For this new folder link share experience, if the folder owner were to remove it on their end, any receiver that has joined the folder before the deletion happens will still have access to the content.
Hi @yidanz ,
Ok, thank you for the information. It's comforting knowing that at least when the new folder link share experience fully rolls out in iOS, receiver will still have access as long as they join the folder prior.
When someone texts me a Dropbox link, I can no longer see the button that says "Save to nay Dropbox". How can I fix this?
