Is there a way to set a future, deletion date for a file? I know that I could add a comment to a file, but I was hoping for something more automated.

While there's no such option within our current automation options, there's a feature called Data Retention that's available to Dropbox team accounts that have purchased the Data Governance Add-On which might help with what you had in mind.
Otherwise, a comment with a note to delete it when the time comes with an @mention is a very good walk-around.
