Files deleted from Lightroom don't to the Bin. They go to a file named "CloudStorge/Dropbox/.Trash"

I have been using Dropbox and Lightroom together for years. In recent weeks and when I delete files from Lightroom they don't go to the Bin. They go to a file named "CloudStorage/Dropbox/.Trash". This is somehow a hidden folder that I have managed to find via CleanMy Mac software. However, when I delete files from Viewer they do go to the Bin. The main problem is that these files still take space in my Hard Drive...

I believe that the issue came up since the last updated version of Dropbox for macOS.

I am using a Macbook Pro with a M1 Processor and I always have had the latest software installed. The same applies to Lightroom.

Could you please assist? Thank you

Also, what's the exact sync status and version of the app?

You can hover your mouse over the Dropbox icon in your menu bar, to see this info.

As for the sync status and version, you should be able to find them, by hovering your mouse over a small Dropbox icon in your menu bar, at the top of your screen, by your WiFi.

Are you able to locate this icon?

Hi Jay, then the files get deleted completely... But it is annoying having to go to "CleanMyMac" each time... It is very handy to have the Bin operating in order to potentially recover files if need be...

I tried and I can't delete this folder. I can't find it in Finder... And via "CleanMyMac" it only allows me to remove the inside files but not the folder itself

I am having this issue as well and it just started a week or so ago when I updated Dropbox to the new version. Running the same version as Xavier. When I delete files from Lightroom they used to go in the trash but now they do not. I assume they are in the folder that Xavier has mentioned but I have not checked that yet.

What I want to know is how to go about deleting the images without having to use a 3rd party program. That folder does not show up when you show hidden files and folders.

Hi John. Using a Mac too. I have also noticed that since the upgrade you are talking about, the synchronising of files takes longer. I am a photographer and when I synchronise a batch of images via Lightroom, I have noticed a slower speed synchronising.

If I delete an image from the folder in finder in outs it in the Mac trash so its something with the way Lightroom and Dropbox delete files when you delete from Lightroom.

You are correct. It is the way the new Dropbox upgrade interacts with Lightroom... But the problem did not happen before the upgrade.

Thanks for the link. I gave its a quick look (will read it in more detail later) but, I have not had any other issues yet with the new Dropbox, just the deleted files.

So in doing some more testing. I am running Lightroom on two different Macs and using Dropbox to manage my Lightroom library. Both computers are running the same version of dropbox, however where the dropbox folder is stored is not the same on the two computers. One my laptop it is in the Documents folder (which is where I want it). On my Mac Studio the Dropbox folder was in the Documents folder but when I updated Dropbox it moved it to /Users/john/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox with no option to move it somewhere else. So why does the same version of Dropbox behave two different ways for where files are stored/ Also when I open Lightroom on my laptop and delete an image it does put it in the trash. The only other difference is my laptop is running a different version of Ventura Tham my Mac Studio. The laptop is a version behind the Mac Studio. I hope this makes sense what I explained. It doesn't make sense of what is happening though. I am not going to update my laptop to the new version of Ventura.

Having a few issues with the new version of Dropbox for Mac. One is deleting files from within Lightroom does not put the files in the trash anymore but now outs them in a hidden folder that you cannot access. This is being discussed in another topic.

Second, which I just discovered is importing into Lightroom it seems you can no longer access drop from the import window in Lightroom. I hope I am missing something obvious. Lightroom is now located in a hidden folder which cannot be accessed in Lightroom.

When Dropbox moved the location of the dropbox folder it left a shortcut where I used to have it and I can see that but it's not importing properly into Lightroom still which is not a Dropbox issue. The deleting issue still needs to be resolved though. Thanks John. My files are also stored at Users/xavier/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox with no option to move it somewhere else. I run the latest version of Dropbox and Ventura too and I experience the same problem as you do. So hopefully someone will read these messages and try to find a solution.

Have you gotten any further with this? I have had some emails exchanges with someone at Dropbox but have not gotten anywhere with it as to what is happening or a solution.

Is there really no solution for this?
