I had 16GB of storage space on my basic account due to referrals I made. Few months ago they reduced it to 2GB. I thought storage increases earned through referrals did not have an expiration.
Any ideas?
Jan
Hey @thejanman, welcome to our Community!
Referral space is indeed permanent, and does not get removed from your available quota, so let's see what we can find out.
Where did you initially see that your space was down to 2 GB?
If you go to your account settings here, how much space does it report?
If it's a different amount, is it possible that you have a second free account with just 2 GB instead?
Let me know what you find.
Same thing JUST happens to me.
I am using the same account.
Anyone know what to do?
Hey @free4cat00, sorry to hear about this.
Can you please let us know what your plan tab reports about your quota at the moment?
Also, was the additional space earned through referrals or another promotion perhaps?
Hi @free4cat00, the most a user can get from referrals would be 16 GB from 32 referrals. These referrals would only increase in space when upgraded to a paid account.
Could you check your referrals page to see if you have any promotional offer on your account that may have expired?
Also, could you let us know the exact quota level on the plans page that my colleague queried about?
Hello Jay,
I can guarantee you that, as an early adopter and big supporter of Dropbox, I have 40 GB of free storage for all my referrals done (+150 people registered because of me).
This was the case until last week when somehow you decided to remove what was your commitment to my referral work.
Please check with your managers, look at my historical info and whatever else you need to look at, and restore my free store.
Thanks a lot

Hey @free4cat00, sorry to repeat myself here, but could you send us a screenshot of your plan tab to see what's reported there in regards to your account's quota?
Not sure what you are asking since it is a free account.
So your account's overall quota is 18.75 GB. What makes you think that your additional space was removed from your account @free4cat00?
The maximum space you can earn through referrals is 16 GB on the Basic plan while this goes up to 32 GB if on the Professional, Plus or Family plans @free4cat00
Did you redeem a different promotion in the past perhaps which granted you with more quota?
My space seems reduced to 2GB on some pages and in a warning mail.
On the https://www.dropbox.com/manage/subscriptions/dropbox-single-seat
on the other hand it seems to have right (almost 8GB) amount.
Hey @Tin1 - thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Could you navigate to your plan tab and let me know what's reported there in regards to your quota?
Also, can you clarify when you received the email and what was its content?
Mail subject says: "Please read: We noticed you're not taking advantage of your Dropbox account."
Note: This is true. I'm over or close to the quota.
https://www.dropbox.com/out-of-space?_camp=15321&_tk=prompt_top says Using 7.75 GB of 2 GB space
And that's not true.
The page "get more space" used to show correct space, possibly promo options and referral bonus.
Now it shows only the base amount.
https://www.dropbox.com/home shows correct space now. (After click to profile. Used to be visible directly.)
Hey @Tin1, sorry to jump in here.
Can you send us what you see on these pages in a screenshot, instead? Unfortunately, we’re not allowed to click on any links, due to security reasons, on the forum.
You can click on the small camera icon above your message box though, to upload your screenshots.
Hello Walter,
I am unfamiliar with the current different Dropbox plans.
I can only say that I've been your customer since 2008, and I got this "extra free storage" within the next 12 months.
That means I had that free storage allocation for 14 years until 2-3 weeks ago when someone decided to REMOVE them.
It is clearly not only unfair, but you are also breaking a long-standing commercial agreement.
And it seems obvious to me that the ONLY thing you need to do is to look at your systems and verify what I am saying.
Can you do that, please?
Thanks

No one here has that kind of access into your account. For that you would need to contact Support directly. However, what Walter has said is true; at no point has Dropbox offered more than 16GB of referral space (32GB for paid accounts). Dropbox also does not remove space earned through referrals.
Have you looked at your Referrals page? It will show you all the space you have earned going back to the beginning of your account, along with how it was earned and if any of it has expired.
Thanks for the quick answer.
Yes, I just looked at it, and this is what I see... 16.75 Gb earned, in addition to whatever I have/had free (2Gb).
So, now.... what do we do?
From what I see...16.75 was my total: 16 Gb from referrals and 750 Mb from Camera Uploads and Getting Started.

From everything you've posted, it's showing that you have all of the space that you've earned. You previously posted that your total quota shows as 18.75GB. You started with 2GB, earned 16GB from referrals and another 750MB from other promotions, for a total of 18.75GB. And the screenshots of your Referrals page don't show that any space has been removed recently (it would have a line item showing Expired for any space that was removed).
The problem here seems to be that you have to 33.9GB of shared files that are taking up space in your account, putting you over your quota. Remove the shared folders from your account and you'll have 15.15GB of available space.
Same here. I've always had 10.23Gb of storage space (now using 7.8 Gb) and now it's reduced to 2Gb. Received an email today saying that my storage is about to stop syncing. Wonder why it's happened.
Hey @phantasm, if you’re seeing the correct amount of quota here, then you should be alright.
I’d like you to send me a screenshot of the email you received though, so that I can take a look (just make sure your personal info is masked).
Was it sent to the same email address as the one showing here?

Don't just go by the email. Look at your actual usage on your Plan page. What does it show?
@Rich wrote: Look at your actual usage on your Plan page. What does it show?
It says:
Dropbox Basic Free2 GB of storage to help you store and share files.-------
Personal Dropbox spaceUsing 7.7 GB of 10.23 GB

You still have all of your space. Remember that 2GB is just the base amount of space that's included with a Basic account to start, so it still shows that. Your usage shows how much space you have including both the base amount and space earned through referrals and other promotions.
This just happened to me yesterday as well. I had about 10gb of storage built up from referrals. I logged out of my personal account in order to install a new work account and then link my personal account, and when I logged back in to my personal account my storage space had reduced to 7.25gb and I now get the over storage limit message.
Hi @Rob_NZ! Do you remember how this extra space had been acquired in the past perhaps? Was it via referrals, etc?
Also, what do you see if you go here? Can you send me a screenshot of this page?
The page says I have 5.25gb built up as noted below (personal email addresses removed in the referrals section), and this with 2gb basic adds up to current storage, but I've definitely lost something by logging out and in again because i didn't get the over limit message before this.
Hey @Rob_NZ, referral space is permanent and cannot be removed from your account, but can we send you an email, so we can look into this internally?
Thanks. I haven't received an email from you yet.
