Hello,
Does somebody know whether it is possible to get real help from dropbox, because the chat is only sending automatic messages... Or there is no help at all?
Thank you.
@Lanaex
Have you checked www.dropbox.com/backups to see if thats using up the quota?
Note as well that deleted items do not use up your quota so deleting them has no impact
All support options are account dependent and listed at www.dropbox.com/support. Email support is restricted to account issues OR for paying users. Phone support and chat depends upon your paid plan.
Alternatively you can ask here.

The support options vary based on your account level. All the support options available to you are shown on the Support page. If you have a Basic account, you're limited to the self help options such as the chat bot, help center articles or posting here. Higher plans have access to other options such as live chat or phone support.
What problem are you having?
Thank you! My problem is that my dropbox was full, but I deleted almost everything (deleted and permanently deleted on the website), and I still get the message that my dropbox is full and I can not synchronise the few remaining spreadsheets on my two computers...
Yes, thank you very much! It was the backup that was eating space.
I have a basic account but am over my quota. I have deleted all my files. There must be some hidden files, maybe backups. What should I do?
Have you looked at www.dropbox.com/backups ?
I am the owner. Basic plan. Just set up a new PC. Got notification of being over limit, went and deleted a whack of files, permanently deleted the files, got down to 77.8GB and now I'm back over 2GB. The files I deleted aren't showing anywhere - not PC, not online, not phone. No backups (I checked a few times) Getting just a wee bit frustrated as no sync will happen while I'm over limit. HELP!
Hey @KristieC, thanks for joining the Dropbox Community.
Can you check your account's space usage here, to see if we can get some insight on why you're getting this notification?
It's showing me at 2.01TB BUT if I check PC or Phone it's around 78GB. I deleted a huge amount of files which took me down to 77.8GB (wish I'd taken a screen shot)
Don't know if this will help but this is what shows on my computer
I calculated the size of every folder I have and took a screen shot
Thanks for the screenshots, Kristie.
So from what I can see, it looks like your account online is showing that you have a Dropbox Basic account and are using 2.00/2.00 GB, which means it's full.
Your local Dropbox folder looks larger, so can you check if the Dropbox desktop app is linked to the same account as online?
You can see the linked account in the "account tab in preferences.
Do you see the same email here?
I appear to have two accounts - can I safely delete one without losing all the files for the other. So frustrating - thank you so much for pointing me in this direction
Hey @KristieC, yes!
You can surely delete one of the accounts, and the files on the other one won't be affected.
If there are any files that you absolutely need, you might want to either download them locally, or keep a copy of them.
I hope this helps!
I tried looking at backups. It says size 0 bytes, number of files 0.
Hey @FrankG37, if your account is full, but you don't know which files are taking up your space, I would suggest using these steps, to see the size of any files in your account and calculate the size of any folder you might have.
Hi Hannah,
I followed your instructions, logged in to dropbox.com. The mesage "you're out of space..." displays at the top. I get a Home screen with options to upload or create. If I choose Upload I get "Your Dropbox is full".
On the panel on the left of the screen The only folders displayed are "Camera uploads" and Mobile Uploads". There was no size option anywhere. I tried the Dropbox App on my laptop and went through all the files they only showed treesize free, All but two showed 0 bytes. Public had a explanation file.
I went back to "Camera uploads" on the web page and this time managed to show files dating back to 2018. I went through selecting each of these and deleting them. Hopefully that will sort it.
Happy to hear that, Frank!

My Dropbox account is stating that it is completely full. But I have spent the last 2 days deleting files and folders from Dropbox. It should only have 3 or 4 very small files in it. But it still has all of the files that I’ve deleted. They won’t actually delete. And I can’t get a response from the chat bot (I’ve tried.). And every topic about deleting files doesn’t address this particular issue.
Have you checked www.dropbox.com/backups to see if you have files there?
What about www.dropbox.com/share ?
Also post what is showing at www.dropbox.com/account/plan in terms of the bar chart of space used.
I don’t use Dropbox backup or Dropbox share. Never have. Is it possible that my Dropbox is still saying it’s full because all of my files are now sitting in a deleted files folder? If so, how can I delete these deleted documents?
Have you checked the links sent? Dropbox were at one point very sneaky at setting it up.
And no, deleted files do not use quota. So basically one of those things above is using your space - everything at www.dropbox.com/home and www.dropbox.com/backups uses quota. Nothing else.
I wouldn't say they were sneaky... they never enabled Backup without the user's input, but you may not have understood the choice when it was presented to you. Basically, it was part of the installation process of the Dropbox app, and if you just blindly clicked Next, Next, etc. without actually reading it, you would have enabled the backup functionality.
Check the links Mark provided. If it's saying you're account is full, the data will be at one of those links.
Yes, I’ve checked the links. I had one small file in the “shared” area and it doesn’t show me any backup folder. When I go to the “all” files, I select the images and go up to the 3 dots, I choose delete. It says it’s deleting. It asks me to confirm the deletion which I do, but it doesn’t delete those files.
I’ve looked at the backups link again. It says 0 bytes in 0 folders.
Sorry, I forgot to post the bar chart of space used. I really don't know what I'm getting the Dropbox Full Notification. This is extremely frustrating.
My Dropbox is now saying 614.9 MB of 2 GB. Something finally worked. Thanks for the help.
Awesome! Finally! That worked for me
I have deleted all folders, shared folders, removed myself from other shared folders, and emptied the deleted items folder. As far as I can tell I have nothing in DB, But it still says my DropBox is full.I went from a paid business subscription to a 2GB plan because I retired.
Any thoughts?
