Hello, I have uploaded a document to Dropbox. It is a document with fillable fields. When I upload it to dropbox, it converts it to a pdf. I need the form to remain as a document with fillable fields. Can you help me with this? Thank you.
Hi @yvettescott, thanks for messaging today!
Before you upload the file, is it already a PDF file, or was it another type of document?
PDF files can be edited using one of the extensions on the Dropbox site directly, if you're referring to editing files online.
Let me know more so that I can assist further!
Hello Jay,
Sorry for the delay, your email just now came through on my spam mail. It is a pdf with fillable fields. I can send you the document if there is a way do it on here.
Okay, so the PDF document appears on the site as a PDF document, so it isn't converted from another filetype. Could you clarify where the issue is exactly?
Are you trying to edit the file via a shared link? Are you logged into your own account? Does the file download without the fillable fields?
Yes, it is already a pdf file but has fillable fields. I need it to remain with fillable fields. Dropbox converts it to a pdf without fillable fields when I upload it. It is a Plaintiff Fact Sheet for United States District Court and I need the clients to fill out the fillable fields and return it. I would appreciate any and all help with this form. Thank you!
Can you let me know if you're trying to edit the file through the website, using an integration @yvettescott?
Or are the fields not available after the file is downloaded from Dropbox? In this case, please let me know which app you're using to open the file.
Daphne and Jay,
I am not editing the file over a shared link. I am not trying to edit the file through the website. When I uplaod the file, it is stripping the fillable forms. Is there a way for me to send the form to you?
Which app are you using to try and edit the file, @yvettescott?
The reason I'm wondering this is that you'll need Adobe Reader 8 or later to be able to fill in the form, as outlined here.
The settings of the file shouldn't be affected when uploading/downloading in Dropbox, so this info will be very useful to know in order for us to find the root cause.
If you'd like to, you can send a shared link to the file. Please just bear in mind though, that this shouldn't contain any personal info, as this is a public forum.
Cheers!
I am not trying to edit the file. I am trying to upload it to Active Campaign to send out to clients and for them to return it in a secure format. Is there an email that I can send it to?
Hello Daphne,
Sorry for the delay. Please see the link below to the form:

Hey @yvettescott, are you able to open the file in the relevant third party app to edit the fields in question?
If you can't do it directly from the website, are you able to download it and then open it?
Hello, We are trying to get it to download to Active Campaign to send out through a mass email. It strips the fillable fields when we download it to Active Campaign.
Hi there, Yvette.
I'm sorry to jump in, but could you post a screenshot of how the file looks like before uploading to Dropbox and another one of how it previews on our website after uploading it?
If you download the file from our website, do you get the fillable fields again?
While we're at, can you clarify how exactly did you upload this file in the first place?
Hello Walter,
I am unable to copy the form to this page for some reason but have sent it through the link. If you have an email address, I will send it through email. Thank you.
Hi @yvettescott, I'm still a little confused on how you are 'editing' the file. Are you downloading the files after uploading from the site?
Please attach a screenshot to your forum post, on how the form looks like before with the editable fields and after uploading to Dropbox, showing where you can't edit.
Alternatively, you can upload screenshots to your Dropbox account and share a link to them for us to view.
Hello,
No, it strips the fillable fields everytime we download it.
Thanks for the info, would it be possible to contact you at the email associated with your forum profile to investigate this in more detail?
Sure, you can email me. Thank you.
Thanks for the confirmation. I've sent you an email, please could you reply to it as soon as possible!
Yvette, could you please share how you resolved this? Having an identical issue with fillable PDFs shared with others via Dropbox.
Hi Walter! We created a fillable PDF (file with fillable text areas) that we would like to add to our clients' Drobpox folders to collect answers. The fillable fields stop being fillable if the file is open in Dropbox via browser or mobile app. If one opens it through the desktop Dropbox app, then the fillable aspect stays. I'm assuming that the issue is whether the file being dowloaded first or not - if downloaded through the desktop app, then either Adobe or Mac iOS will facilitate the filling-in, but if the file is open in the browser version of Dropbox, then it can't be filled in and opens as a preview of sorts, only to be commented on. I know we can add an extension, but that will only take care of the issue for us, not for all clients' folders, correct?
Is there a workaround that you know of? What kind of file can we add to all clients' folders that will allow us to have clients type up answers into when opening the file in the browser version of Dropbox, both mobile and computer browsers?
Thank you!
