I'm reporting a UI bug in the Dropbox iPad app involving the split-panel document viewer. This appears to be a regression of an issue previously reported by other users back in 2019.
EXPECTED BEHAVIOR:
- Open a document in the Dropbox iPad app so that it appears in a split view: a smaller panel on the left and a larger panel on the right.
- In the upper-left corner of the right (document) panel, there is an "X" button, which is present when the document is not filling the full screen.
- Tap the "X" to close the document. The document closes, but an "X" remains in the upper-left corner of the now-blank right panel.
- Tap that remaining "X" to close the right panel entirely. The left panel then expands to fill the screen.
WHAT HAPPENS CURRENTLY:
In step 3, after tapping the "X" to close the document, the "X" button should remain available, but it disappears leaving the blank right panel unable to close.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- I confirmed this is a software issue and not a device issue: on an older iPad, running an older version of the Dropbox app, the "X" button worked correctly and did not disappear. After updating to the latest version of Dropbox, the problem appeared.
- I have already tried the standard troubleshooting steps without success, including: force-quitting and reopening the app, restarting the iPad, and opening the same file through the Files app instead of directly in Dropbox.
- This appears to be the same underlying issue reported by other users in the Dropbox Community forum in 2019 ("X to close photos on split screen gone"), suggesting it may be a regression that was reintroduced in a later update.
