I need to install an app called Pic-Time, but it wants full access to my Dropbox account

Question

I'm trying to download photos from a photographers web site into drop box.  A pop-up asks if I give permission to Pic-Time to have access to all my files and folders.  There's only a YES OR CANCEL option.  When I choose cancel, it gives me an error message and the pics won't print.

I thought it odd that an app wanted (seemingly) full access to my files. Can I download without giving this permission? TIA

This sounds like a third party application, which requires full access to your Dropbox account.

While it does sound scary, these third party apps have 3 different options on how to connect to Dropbox accounts, depending on what the developer chooses, which you can see here.

Essentially, as the app doesn't need access to a single file, or a private folder that you can't access normally, it needs full access to your account in order to be able to (from I gather from your description) download the photos into any folder on your account that you select.

If you don't trust the app, then you don't need to give it access, and you can contact the photographer to find another way to transfer the files to you.

That is a question you'll need to ask the photographer themselves I'm afraid - it is them who has built this integration so its them which is setting this up and asking for those permissions.

Unfortunately if it wants full access there is no way to change that yourself - that comes from the developer.
