How can we speed up a first-time sync of a team account on a new computer?

Hi everyone!

Everytime we replace a laptop, and do a first time setup of Dropbox, it takes FOREVER for our Dropbox Team folders to sync. Menu item at the bottom is stuck at Syncing. No matter who it is.

These are new 16" M4 MacBook Pro laptops. Sequoia macOS verison 15.7.x (a mix) with the latest Dropbox install version 241.4.4853 for mac. Any ideas on what we can do to speed things up?

Hi there, @monaronyc, thanks for posting your question to the Dropbox Community!

To be honest, a few things can affect the syncing speed of the Dropbox desktop app, like the size and number of your files, especially if it's a first-time sync.

It also depends on whether you're choosing to sync all your files or some of them during install and if you're choosing to sync them as "available offline" or "online-only".

You can try to speed things up by changing how much bandwidth the Dropbox app uses.

Lastly, note that the performance of the desktop app can decline if there are more than 300K files in the Dropbox folder, so that might also be a factor in this case.

Hi @Hannah, thanks for reaching out! We've never had manage the bandwidth in Dropbox. Its always been set to its default. Unless we need to change that now?! We do have terabytes on top of terabytes of data in our Teams folders, but when we do a first time sync, we're only syncing a couple of folders to start with. We know the drill! Users personal folder seems to come right down. I have 3 replacements i have to do today. Let me see what happens if i play with bandwidth settings. BRB!
