Is there a way to keep the same link for an updated file?

Hi all,

I have a PDF presentation I constantly update, after I've shared the link with clients. But I want the same link to keep working for them. One workaround I sometimes use is sharing the containing folder (and updating the file inside) but many people find this confusing.

Is there a way to keep the same link for an updated file?

Just replace the file - dont delete it, replace it.

So as I work with Dropbox on my computer I just File -> Save As and overwrite the file.

I do this frequently without issue. If, however, you delete and THEN replace, you will lose the link.

Mark is correct, but keep in mind that there are applications that, while saving, will delete the original file first and then save the new file with the same name. If your application works this way and Dropbox is fast enough to sync the deletion, then the link will change.

If that happens, you can either pause Dropbox while you're saving the file, or save the file outside of Dropbox and then manually move it into Dropbox, replacing the original file in the process.
