Can I refresh a file inside Dropbox, without re-uploading it from scratch?

Hi,

A file or folder is downloaded from my desktop into Dropbox. I use colors etc for files and folders on my desktop, but they do not show in Dropbox. For that reason I prefer to work on my files and folders on my desktop.

Is there a way to refresh a file or folder in Dropbox, without uploading it again to Dropbox. In that case it adds the file or folder, does not refresh the one in Dropbox.

Hopefully you understand my problem.

I have a couple of questions to start to make sure we're on the same page. Are you using Dropbox on Windows or MacOS? Are you using a Dropbox folder on your desktop to manage files? Or are you simply uploading the files into Dropbox ad hoc without managing your Dropbox folder?

If you're using a Dropbox folder, the files should automatically refresh as they're updated on your computer.

Am I understanding your issue correctly?

Not with Dropbox, no. Dropbox will only sync the files that are located in the Dropbox folder. It can't sync files from other locations on your computer.

You would need to find a third-party utility that can sync local file locations and configure it to copy files between your Desktop and Dropbox. In the past I would have suggested Microsoft's SyncToy, but I think they discontinued it.

Dropbox is on my pc desktop computer.

If I have understood well: working on files/folders in Dropbox they automatically sync on my other devices (i-Phone and i-Pad) with Dropbox. It is not possible to refresh files/folders, so I will lose colors etc. I use for files/folders on my pc.

I found safe alternative downloads for Synctoy but have to find out how to use looking at my 'problem'.

Of course I am open to advice. If not, thanks for your help.

Leo, you're correct that local OS display configurations such as colors will not sync across devices through Dropbox.
