I've been using the Dropbox Passwords on my computer and phone and not sure what I'm going to do without it! What are other Dropbox users going to do now? I'd welcome any suggestions.
Thanks for your helpful replies, I've decided to use 1Password but I'm upset that I now have to pay for something that I was already paying for and worked very well
Hi there, @somersetbp, welcome to our Community!
Since Dropbox Passwords will be discontinued on October 28th 2025, what we recommend on our side is for you to transfer your passwords to another trusted and secure password manager application such as 1Password.
You can see the steps on how to migrate your passwords to 1Password or another password manager and other relevant info here.
Of course, I'll also leave the thread open, in case other users would like to share their thoughts.
I hope this helps and if you have any questions, just give us a shout.

If I'm honest I tried it, and hated it, so went to 1Password ages and ages ago - way before this offer.
That system is how Dropbox Password should have been - the autofill, password suggestions, watch tower etc. are just amazing. The best bit is, like all Apple stuff (I know it isnt made by Apple, however, analogy works here) it just works. It does what it says on the tin and does it well.
The offer of 1 year half price is also superb (I dont get that!) so seriously consider it.

Same here. I've used 1Password for years. Tried Dropbox Passwords and it was far from feature complete. Missing so much compared to other systems. Never touched it again.
Hi @somersetbp,
Thanks for posting to the Community Forum.
I just wanted to share a recent post where some users are discussing how to export their passwords over to Apple Keychain.
I posted some clarifying steps to do so as well.
Hello, I've been trying to get a basic question answered through DB support:
Is Dropbox Password an app that is different from my individual account password? The information I'm getting from DB isn't clear. If Passwords is indeed an app (which I don't use), will my account password be affected by this change?
I emailed support, but got a personal email back saying they couldn't help me because of my account type (non-paid). In the time it took to send me that response, the person could have simply answered my question. Unbelievable. Thanks for any clarity anyone may have.
Hi @Susan S, thanks for your comment here.
First, I wanted to say that we appreciate your feedback and we'll make sure to log it accordingly.
Regarding Dropbox Passwords, I wanted to provide some clarifications and if you have any more questions, feel free to get back to me!
So, Dropbox Passwords is a standalone feature (a mobile app and a browser extension) which you can use to store passwords from other services, apps, credit cards, etc.
It does not affect how you manage your Dropbox login or password; you'll still be able to log in to your account and reset your password as normal.
I hope this helps!
Hello, Thank you so much for your helpful reply. This is exactly what I was looking for. It may be helpful to put this on the website to avoid similar inquiries.
Thanks again.
No problem, Susan!
Let me know if you need anything else.
Have a great weekend!
As it will be another cost and Dropbox is already expensive in itself I'm searching for other solution for my files and passwords. Proton Unlimited (with Pass, Mail, Drive, VPN) seems a good offer with a lot of built in privacy and security.
I also assume that there will be a reduction in fees to go along with the reduction in service. Or, rather same as when Carousel was removed - nothing
I will move all my passwords and my files to another service - probably Proton. I am tired of Dropbox. They haven't provided any new useful features in ages. Instead, they have continued to remove services: Photos, Password, Paper, etc.
I too am not impressed about having to pay for another service. First it was dropping the Dropbox Capture & now the Dropbox Passwords, but I haven't seen a reduction in my fees. I'm hoping the new features will be ones I can utilise because I don't use anything else now but for saving my files in Dropbox. I might have to use 1Password but I'm in Australia & will have extra fees for the money conversion.
Hi @reneeb17,
I appreciate the feedback and the inconvenience caused by this. I've also passed your feedback about the Passwords deprecation to our team.
Let me know if I can help in any other way.
TrendMicro Password Manager doesn't have a cost. We've been using worry free small business and it's licensed with that. merely $15/yr for general users
Take a look at Nord Passwords. Much nicer user experience than Dropbox Passwords. And there's a free tier. Moving from DB Passwords is super easy with a simple CSV upload.
I use Bitwarden and I'm happy with it ;-)
I’ll be dropping Dropbox altogether. Why would I pay for just file storage when I can get a MS 365 family account for the same price?
Exported passwords to another program, what I'm wondering is what happens to my passwords on Dropbox? The official answer is that I can't delete the passwords unless I also delete my Dropbox account, which for now I want to keep. But when I try to delete my passwords individually, or change or somehow make the information unusable, I get a message about the app going away; it won't let me delete anything. I don't like that Dropbox is keeping this information and would like to know that it is erased.
I have this same concern - I asked Dropbox this Q and this was there response:

Thanks for contacting Dropbox Support. My name is Richard and I'll be assisting you today.Based on the description provided, I understand that you would like to ask about deleting your passwords from Dropbox Passwords feature.
I would be happy to help resolve this issue right away. Please note that your passwords won't be automatically deleted from the application, however you can unlink the Dropbox Passwords app from your devices using the Dropbox settings page for your account.
If you are planning to remove unlink Dropbox Passwords on all of your devices, please ensure that you have printed or saved your recovery words beforehand, as otherwise you will not be able to gain access to your Passwords account again. Moreover, Dropbox Passwords is separate from your main Dropbox account. Deleting files in your main Dropbox account does not impact the websites, usernames, passwords, and notes stored in Dropbox Passwords. If you wish to delete all websites, usernames, passwords, and notes from your Dropbox Passwords account, you can do so by selecting "Reset" or "Reset Account" from the settings menu of the Passwords application. This will permanently remove all data. Due to the permanent destructive nature of this action, you will be prompted to export all of your saved Passwords to a .csv file, so that if you later need access to these passwords you can import them again. This step can be skipped, however I would recommend that you export your passwords to a .csv file, and store them somewhere safe. Note that if you delete your entire Dropbox account, then all of your passwords will also be deleted - remember to export your Passwords first if you plan to delete your Dropbox account.
Which I found less than helpful - that "passwords won't be automatically deleted from the application"
I can update to add that my initial attempts were on my PC, and this is where I encountered the inability to delete or reset passwords. I occasionally used Dropbox Passwords on my android devices but found it too cumbersome and so switched to Google passwords on those devices. However, yesterday I opened the app on my phone and I was able to successfully delete my passwords, one by one. I only got through about 100 of the 400+, but today checked in on my PC and those 100 are definitely gone. It's tedious having to do it one by one, and while I accept that Dropbox is scuttling the app, I feel pretty cheated that they are making it so hard to remove all of my passwords from their system. Almost like they initiated the divorce and they are retaining custody my passwords. The password integration is one of the main reasons I have kept the paid subscription.
Hello everyone,
I wanted to express my dissatisfaction regarding the announcement of the discontinuation of Dropbox Passwords at the end of October 2025. Like many of you, I relied on this feature to manage my passwords securely and seamlessly within my Dropbox subscription. It’s a major disappointment to see this feature removed without Dropbox adjusting its pricing accordingly. Instead of compensating for the loss of this added value, the subscription prices remain unchanged, making the service less appealing for loyal users like myself.
For those looking for a reliable alternative, I highly recommend Bitdefender Passwords. This password manager is included in certain Bitdefender family subscriptions, such as the Family Pack, which provides comprehensive protection for the entire family at no additional cost for this feature. I’ve already started migrating my data to this solution, which integrates well and offers advanced security options.
Feel free to share your experiences or other suggestions in the comments. Let’s hope Dropbox takes the community’s feedback into account!
Best regards,
I realized my Eero subscription includes a free 1Password subscription!! I removed my autopay from Dropbox and purchased a M365 subscription and will be using OneDrive going forward. Family subscription is the same price as Dropbox and I get 6TB storage across 6 accounts plus the other Microsoft apps. It’s a no brainer for me. Not sure how Dropbox stays in business!
It is now 15 Oct and I cannot find how to download the CSV. Any help is appreciated.
