Registered to post this - not really interested in a debate or snake oil, just some peace of mind from here, so thanks for indulging. :-)
We really need a version that runs like Dropbox once did; synchronization of folder, sharing of either subfolders as www link or as sync-invite to other users. And that's it.
Ever since "the big one" of your platform updates years ago, several more functions have been added and us simple users find our beloved software running more and more odd and unstable with each one added.
What I think lots of people would appreciate for their money, still allowing Dropbox devs to have workdays with the fancy current version; Ladies and gentlemen:
Dropbox Classic!
- All files synced. No selective options, which is sometimes running on a delay, it seems. Your servers on our processors will probably be happy too. So many support-threads suddenly gone too.
- No UI clutter for online stuff; no options to edit, transfer, share, marry, mutate or anything. Just viewing.
- Indicator telling you exactly what is being sync'ed, as current Dropbox seems to just suddently wanting to sync 800 files. Then 2 files show up in list, fancy icon and all. I don't know what the 798 files were.
- No GUI re. above indicator or menus in general. Actual indicator / file list activity is also running on delay now (actual sync process vs. what user is seeing), and that really shouldn't happen in 2025. Just show me the text-bits, please - if anything but the green indicator at all.
Basicly:
- Some of us simply need what made Dropbox popular to begin with - and nothing more.
- Hopefully this will remove the resource-hogging and still not accurate processes popping up more and more, both on my private account and work account, running on different machines.
"But people want all these features! We're gathering so much in one package!"
Yes, and we're not taking anything away from those users, harming the biz. Au contraire, you may be able to hold on to paying dinosaurs like me. (this paragraph is what you show the boss)
I assume lots of us are shaking our pants whenever new stuff is implemented, and it shouldn't be like that. You reacted to "Vault", and have proven able to delete features.
I just want to be able to recommend Dropbox again, and seeing how ie. nothing but MS Explorer now shows status of sync on files (was previously and overlay to icons - now seperate file properties not interpreted by most file managers), I can only assume that the innovative way forward may (still) not be for everyone.
Thanks for the read, and hoping for a return to form. Thanks again.
