If I move a shared document, will it also get moved for the owner?

A co-worker shared a doc with me. I'm using dropbox on the web. When I'm editing this doc I have an option in my sidebar that reads "Give this doc a home" with a "Move to Folder" button under it. I'm not very familiar with dropbox and I don't want to do anything that is going to relocate the document from the perspective of the guy who shared it. Yeah I know that's unlikely but I can't take the chance and I can't find any information on this anywhere.

Can someone confirm that this will only alter the location of the document in my own folder structure and will not in any way alter the location from the perspective of the owner?

Can you give us some more info on how your co-worker shared the doc with you?

Did they send you a shared link? And was it a "view-only" link or a "can edit" one?

To edit the document, did you need to copy it to your Dropbox first?

Thank you Hannah. It was an email from Dropbox with a link to open the doc and yes I do have edit privs. No I didn't have to copy it to my Dropbox. I just opened the doc by clicking on the link. (making sure I was logged in of course) This took me directly to the document at "paper.dropbox.com".

Hope you don’t mind if I jump in, @kaelsidhe! From what I understand, you’re seeing the option mentioned here to create a Dropbox Paper folder and move your document there.

To have a clear image of what you see though, can you please send me a full screenshot, as well?
