Just recently I have been downloading a video file with Audio but then after downloading the video loses audio and the Dropbox video in server loses audio unless I delete the app and log in again.
Hey @Thomas D.31, thanks for posting to our Community.
Do you mean that you have a video file that is saved to your Dropbox, and when you preview it on the Dropbox app, it previews correctly, but when you download it to your device, there's no audio?
And then if you go back to the file in the Dropbox app, there's no audio there too?
Also, what file type is this video file (.avi, .mov, .mp4 etc.)?
And what kind of device are you doing this from? An Android or iOS one?
Let me know and we'll go from there.
So it is an .mp4 file which I have save other files numerous times without any problems. This file while it plays initially with audio. As soon as you try to export it or download it into an email, save it into a icloud file, or save it directly into my iphone ios the audio is taken out of the file. When viewing it again in the Dropbox, it plays without audio unless I delete the app and reinstall the app.
Hi @Thomas D.31, just for clarification, does the video play with audio when downloaded on a desktop machine?
Have you tried opening the file in a different video or media player?
I plays on the Dropbox site. But as i download it, it comes without audio. It is the same configuration of video and audio codec which is a .mp4 with H264
Hey @Thomas D.31, I hope it’s alright if l jump in here.

Yes of course please email me as you research the issue. Thank you.
You’re all set!
When you have some free time, please check your email address and reply back to me.

Hi @Zarnalist, welcome to our Community!
Can you let me know which -if any- troubleshooting steps you've tried on your end? Did you try what was mentioned throughout this thread?
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!
Hi @Zarnalist, it sounds like this could be the issue here, since the video came from a camcorder and it was later converted to an .mp4.
How did you convert it on your end? Also, which platform do you use when trying to preview the file on our end?
Hi Nancy,
I saw your response to Thomas from last August. Can you help me (my problem can't wait until the M-F availability of the official Chat support. I have a video saved in the Pictures file on my laptop. It's 4 minutes long, so I want to email it to people on a Dropbox link. But the audio, which is the point of this video, was great on the iphone, is sort of pretty good (volume) as saved on my computer, and awful (just about inaudible as uploaded onto Dropbox. Could you email me and help me fix it (or anyone else who sees this?

Sorry to hear about this, @Peter Honchaurk.
Can you clarify the file extension of the video in question?
Also, is the audio distorted no matter the Dropbox platform (website/desktop app/mobile app) you access it from?
Let me know and we’ll go from there.
Hi, Thanks. sorry, I don't know what a file extension is. And I haven't tried accessing Dropbox except via the website on my laptop. I've tried vimeo and google Drive now too -- no volume to speak of on anyu of them. But the volume is decent (not great) on the video when I play it on my computer (it's on Media Player, which seems to be the only thing that plays the birdsong on the video -- again, decently, not great. As a fallback, I think I can Zip just the birdsong section and send it as an attachment, but is there a way to allow the recipient to Preview it? Hate for them to have to download a 42-second video in order to view/hear it -- way too much work and a feeling of cluttering one's computer...
Thanks for sending more details, Peter! When saying file extension, I was referring to the type of the video file (for example, is it .mp4, .avi etc).
Hi Nancy, Thanks. mp4. And the sound is almost entirely inaudible when I play the Dropbox link on my laptop (pc) but it's fine when I open it in DropbBox on my phone. As I say, in the photos file on my phone it's fine. Playing from my computer it's only decent (not as good as on the phone) when I select it from my files, in Media Player. the birdsong is almost entirely inaudible on any of the links I tried to create (because I wish to share it via email and my email lists are on my computer) on Dropbox, Icloud, OneDrive, Google Drive... PeterCan we speak by phone?
(and Vimeo)
Hey @Peter Honchaurk, have you tried opening the link from a different browser on your PC and playing the file, in case this is a browser issue?
Hi Hannah, Thanks for the idea -- I just switched to Microsoft Edge (from Chrome) and got the same result.
Peter
Thanks for trying that, Peter.
Do you get the same behavior when you play the file locally on your computer, after you download it from the link?
Thank you -- that's interesting. No. The volume is decent (again, not great like on the phone) on the download. Meanwhile I've sent it to a friend who might be able to enhance the sound. Here's a new issue. He said that when he clicked on the link he wasn't able to play it directly but had to download it to play it (so in the case of this video that might be plus): is this the recipient's experience upon receiving an emailed DropBox link? -- do they always have to download it to play it? I thought I was offering them the easy experience of simply clicking on the link and then clicking on a Start arrow... Perhaps relatedly, is there a way to send them just a clean-looking final version, without the panels of editting tools, etc around it?
Hey again, Peter. Your friend should be able to preview the video without downloading it first.
Can you clarify the size of the video on Dropbox?
Also, if you can send me a screenshot of what he sees on his end, that’d be great. You can attach it here with this button:
As for the editing tools, it's not possible to remove those I'm afraid. However, the recipient should have an option to preview the video in full-screen, if they don't want to see them.
I am facing the same problem as of currently, a few weeks ago, I was able to download videos from the app with audio with no issue, but now all of a sudden, the sound is completely taken away from the video when I watch it in my camera roll, and even effects the video in the dropbox app as well, and apparently this is a common problem for most apps like dropbox... is there a STRAIGHT FORWARD way to fix this problem? I do not know if this is a mobile or computer problem, but I just want to know if there is a direct way to fix this.
I am facing this exact same problem
Does anyone know the actual answer to solve this problem? like at all...
HI @FRANK 8, do the videos have audio when you first upload them to the Dropbox site or via the mobile app?
Are you able to preview them on the Dropbox site itself with audio, instead of the mobile app?
Same issue. When I play the video in Dropbox, it has audio. When I download it to my PC, it has video but not audio.
Hey @Geno28, let's jump right into this!
What file type are we talking about? I'm guessing an .mp4, correct?
Also, have you by any chance tried downloading the video using a different browser? Also, is it a file that you have saved in your Dropbox account, or are you accessing it through a shared link?
Let me know more, and we'll take it from there!
