Dragging a file to upload, it ends up in subfolder instead of the current folder

For the past several weeks I've had the following happening:

I open a subfolder to delete some files, or drag and drop something (within the web interface) to a subfolder.

Then when I drag and drop something from my computer to the folder that is open on the browser, the files get uploaded to the subfolder that I last used instead of the folder that is open. Once uploaded, it looks like the file disappears, but it has ended up in the subfolder. I have to go to the subfolder and move it back out of there after uploading.

Any ideas?

Do you notice this behavior on a specific browser that you use, or multiple ones?

Can you try using a different browser, just to notice if the behavior there is the same?

If it it, would you mind sending us a few screenshots of what you mentioned, in order for us to have a visual too? Just make sure none of your personal info is shown there.

Hello, I have the same issue, with the website interface, Firefox and Chrome on Windows

When I try to drag some files into an open folder, no matter where inside the dropppable zone i place my cursor, it wants to select a subfolder to upload to.

It also wants to keep the subfolder selected even if I hover off the subfolder.

In the video, you can see how even if I hover off the subfolders, it still says it will upload to a subfolder and not into the "2024" main folder

Im getting annoyed always having to check whether it uploaded to the correct folder.

Keep in mind that due to security and privacy reasons we can't access your link, and I've removed it on my end.

When did you first notice this behavior? I just tested it on my end using Chrome and it seems to be working without an issue.

Have you tried an incognito tab, by any chance?

I replicated in Firefox "Private window" and in Chrome Incognito Mode, Windows 11 fresh install

I open a fresh browser window with a folder in Dropbox open. I dont go anywhere, I open the tested folder from the very start.
I pick up and drag a folder from Windows Explorer, i keep it selected and drag it around the browser window for the test.
When I initially drag to a blank spot under a list of subfolders, it wants to upload to the current folder (correct behaviour), blue dashed line around the whole folder zone.
From there I drag over a list of subfolders, it wants to upload to that subfolder (correct behaviour)
From there i move the cursor over to the empty zone above the subfolders, where the name of the current folder and the "Recents" and "Starred" buttons are also located, it wants to upload to a subfolder (WRONG behaviour). The whole folder area highlights with blue dashed line but it still wants to upload to the last hovered subfolder.
From there I drag the folder back down to the zone from (3), working correctly again, wants to upload to the current folder .

In this case it only works "wrong" after dragging the computer folder across the dropbox subfolders, and up to the title of the current folder. I've had cases where dragging into zone (3) also wants to upload to a subfolder, but it's harder to replicate.

Hi @Animation! Thanks for all the details!
From my side, I was able to reproduce the following behavior: When I drag a file (move my cursor above the folder list), if a sub-folder seems to be highlighted on the screen, the file will be uploaded to said folder.
However, if I drop the file at the bottom of the sub-folder list, it will upload to the folder-destination.
Though, in order for me to understand the exact steps, please get back to me with a series of screenshots if possible.

Having the same issue. Using Safari or Firefox. Happens almost as often as drag & drop puts it into the folder that is actually open.

Only reliable way is to click on the upload button. Otherwise it seems there's a 50/50 chance the dragged file will end up in some subfolder and I'll have to go searching for it. Never had this issue until about the past month or so.

Any solutions out there for drag and drop?

Can you let us know if you get the same results on an incognito window with no extensions or plugins running as well?

Did you clear your browser's cache since you first noticed this by the way?
