What if a file is not in a folder? If I upload the new file with an identical name, how will the link be the same?

Can you please clarify what kind of file you're talking about and how you'd be uploading it?
Will it be via the website directly or through the desktop app on your computer perhaps?
As for the link you mentioned, are you referring to a view-only or edit shared link?
