Bring back File Request option in File Explorer.

I used to be able to initiate a "Request Files" by right clicking on the file I wanted the documents to go into. This is more efficient that having to go to the web version, as I 99.9% work out of the File Explorer on my PC. Please bring back the option to "Request Files" in the right click menu.

Would you be able to confirm the OS you're using along with the version of the app you're using on your end?

I'd also love a screenshot of the content menu that you see when you right click on a file inside your Dropbox folder, in order for me to have a visual too.

I discussed this with Dropbox chat earlier today, They said this feature is no longer available in the right click menu and I have to use the web version to request files.

That's interesting. I'm on the latest Beta release (207.3.5664, released yesterday) and the option is still there for me. Have you reinstalled the app yet?

Return the Request Files (transfer) via Right Clicking on a Folder. We used to be able to request files by right clicking on a Windows explorer folder. This saved a ton of time compared to logging into the webpage and creating a request end location from scratch. I can see no reason why this helpful feature was removed. Please put it back.

I agree, can we get this back. This is a very annoying change. Why would you make it more clicks and searches to request files?

I agree 100%. I'm flabbergasted that your development team took away one of the most useful features of Dropbox. GEEZ. Please don't stop at passing the information on. Please take responsibility and shepherd putting it back, and account to us here that it is happening, and by when.

Why did Dropbox move the file request share to the website? This is where you send the link and have people upload documents directly to your Dropbox folders.

It used to be an option on my desktop folder for Dropbox and was very easy to use. The move to file requests online has become so incredibly cumbersome.

Has anyone found a better solution to this clear downgrade from Dropbox?

Has anyone confirmed it worked to reinstall the app? This sounds like a huge pain to have to do this to get a feature which was already there. So Dumb Dropbox!!

Nancy, what was the outcome internally? I’d like to understand the benefits of this specific change for Dropbox or more importantly Dropbox users. This adds time to every single request. I’m finding there are a lot of alternatives to Dropbox. Currently looking at box.com as well as Google Drive. Ultimately, looking for ease of use and certainly accompany that’s not going to downgrade one of its best features. Please provide an update rather than letting users know you pass the information on into nothingness.

OLD WAY TO DO FILE REQUEST: 30 SECONDS 😁😎😍

In Desktop Dropbox folder - Right click on any sub folder I want files to upload to
Name the link and any settings
Click finish to get my link

NEW WAY TO DO FILE REQUESTS: 5-10 MINS 🤒😭">😵

Go to Dropbox.com
Click on File request on the left
Click new request button
Name link
Choose folder
Click on team
Click on first sub folder
Scroll through 300 sub folders (individual client folders)

This takes a bit
Can’t type folder name to find quicker
Keep on scrolling

Click in 3rd sub folder

Scroll down through client sub folders to find the folder I want this file request to go
This takes a bit
Can’t type folder name to find quicker

Click on 4th sub folder and Choose Folder
Click Create
Name the link and any settings
Click finish to get my link

Do we know if this feature is coming back? We were in the middle of switching away form client portals to simply using this feature; however, it not to become available once again using the right-click method is would not be worth us changing our current process. Just need some feedback if possible.

It’s pretty clear that Dropbox doesn’t listen to their customers. The standard response is “we’ll send it to our team”…then crickets. No explanation of how it’s beneficial…only crickets.

Sir, you are a community manager. One month is waaaaay more than enough time to bring the "additional information" that you promised. This is business. Never mind updating us with "information". How about a commitment? Dropbox took away a feature that was working just fine for years. It took effort to take it away. It would have taken NO effort to leave it in place. Please let us know there is a commitment, and a definite timeline. Else it's time to look for other solutions.

What process do you use? I guess it's time to shop around. If they answer in the affirmative by the time I figure out another solution fine. But the WYSIWYG principle (What You See Is What You Get) would predict a failure to respond, at least in the affirmative. Thanks man!

Can we get an idea of the timeline, rather than this open-ended "We'll update you as soon as we have more information"?

It's been far too long from the last time you said this (9/26/24) and we still don't have an "update". What gives? It's a feature that saves your users time (and thus money). We haven't received an explanation as to why this was even removed.

Its a feature I use a lot and the lack of communication is shocking.... but sadly what I've come to expect @DBX_Pedro.

May I offer there is nothing to "look into"? It would help if you communicated something like "they recognize the issue and are working to restore it".

I suggest that all the looking into of this issue has already been done by your users, here on this thread. The issue is established. The committee has been struck and adjourned. I assume the development team is well aware of what they have done. I've been on one.

Waiting would not generate nearly the cynicism if the error of removing the feature were acknowledged and a remedy committed to, even if the timeline is unclear. I would really be impressed if you could true your organization up around things like this.

I still don't understand your answer within the current context. What has to happen to "find" a solution that your team already had? As a former software developer, that genuinely makes no sense to me. I just can't tell whether the source of this obfuscation is your communication style, or is instructed from the development team themselves. It doesn't really address my concern about this communication, almost at all. You keep stopping short of a commitment. Who is behind this?

@Megan I'm hoping you can provide an update on this...we are waiting to get information from anyone at Dropbox! What gives?

I can't imagine telling one of my clients that I'd pass their complaint on to my team...and take 6 weeks to be pinged again for an update. That's been my experience with Dropbox. A simple explanation of "we did this because it saves us money so you can go pound rocks" would be more acceptable than...crickets and no reply.

Terrible communication from Dropbox, who must be hoping this issue goes away as all staff tries to sweep it under the virtual carpet.

Megan, I would supply you a screenshot myself, but I'm unaware of a way to take a screenshot of a context menu in Windows.

But why would you need a screenshot? Are you saying there are users for whom the Request Files context menu option currently exists? If so, who? We've already had the issue acknowledged by other Dropbox team members. You should be able to right click on any folder in your own Dropbox folder and see there is no "Request Files" option any more. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
