I am trying to change my email by the common procedure, however it shows a red "X" (with no error message) and doesn't let me change my email address...
My email account will be deleted in a few days and I will loose access to my Dropbox account.

Could there be another Dropbox account already associated with your new email address? Try to sign in, resetting the password if needed, with your new email address.
You were totally right! It turns out that both emails I've tried so far was already registered in DropBox. So... I had to use a third one. Thank you so much!

If the other accounts aren't needed, you can delete them or change the email address on them and that will free up their original email for use on another account.
