I've unshared many folders, permanently deleted lots of files but dropbox still reports that it is full. How can I free up space? I've already followed dropbox instructions with no results
Permanently deleting files isn't needed to clear space. Simply deleting them is enough. Files in the Deleted Files section do not count against your storage quota.
If Dropbox is saying your account is full, then it's still full. You need to remove enough files to bring your account back below your quota before that message will go away. It could be that you're still a member of a large share that just keeps filling your account as you make more room.
You can verify your storage usage on your Account page. It will show you a breakdown of what's using your storage (regular files, shared files, etc.), which hat may help you identify files that you can remove to free up some more space.
this is the screenshot. tks megan. i don't if it will be clear, it's blurred on my screen.
and this is the screenshot of my plan page. there must be a way to gain access so i can delete files, clear up space, not need a new plan. many thanks.
Hey @dreampainter, thanks for the screenshots!
It seems you can access your home page, and process your files -even though there's a message there- and also your regular content takes up most of your quota.
Have you tried using these steps, in order to free-up some space in your account?

What do you mean by gain access? It looks like you're already signed in to your account. There's nothing in your screenshots to indicate that you're unable to access your files. Are you not able to navigate the folders to delete files? If so, is there a message about not being able to access the files? If so, screenshot it.
Dropbox says I am over my limit so I deleted nearly all my files (I think) but I still have an alert saying I am over my limit. Maybe I don't understand how to fully delete files?
Hi there, @Howard Jennings, thanks for reaching out to us.
Is it possible that you have any shared folders or backups that are taking up your space?
What do you see in your plan tab regarding your usage?
I absolutely agree with you. Every day I get the "Delete files" for more storage email. They are deleted.

If you're getting the email, then your storage is still full or close to being full. Check your Plan page and it will show you where your space is being used.
Hey i deleted a lot of files from my dropbox to get some space, but it keeps telling me that my space is nearly full and doesn`t sync my files and i don't have any shared affects. what can i do?

Checked your Backups page yet? When does it show for your actual usage on your Plan page? Provide a screenshot if you can. It should look like this:
Hey thank you for your answer! My storage plan looks like this right now. I don't use the back up as of now, how can i install that?
Hey @melissam4, you can use the steps here, to see the size of your files and calculate the size of your folders, to see which ones are taking up your space.
I hope this helps!
Thank you for the Tip, but with the amount that i already delted from all my folders, i should have way more storage space again, but the numbers don't change unfortunately and i can't really delete any more....
Hmm, what did you find after you checked the size of your files, Melissa?
Do you see a discrepancy with your usage here?
