Files in shared folder appearing as locked to a member with edit permissions

I am saving Word files to a Dropbox folder. I am the owner of the folder and there is only one other member of the folder who has edit permissions.

When the other member opens the file, it becomes locked (padlock symbol appears). I have not locked the file when saving it and I have checked they definitely have edit permissions which they do.

We have been using this folder to share files in this for many years and this only started happening last week.

Any ideas on why this would be happenings please?

Could the other member be locking the file prior to opening it? Doing this would prevent conflicts if multiple people tried to open the file at the same time.

Hi, thank you for your response.

They have said they aren't locking it from their side, but something has definitely changed since last week.
