restoring deleted files after reverting to the basic plan

Hello!

This past year, I've migrated over to Google Drive. I kept my Dropbox account open until now, and have just recently reduced my plan to the "free" one, which included deleting most of my files because I had too much data for the free account. I believe I deleted about 13 years worth of pictures from my business . When I look under deleted files, I not only do not see nearly any of the business files I deleted... just like 2 folders. Where did all my data go? Do I need to upgrade - if only for a month - to have those folder be seen in my deleted file bin... so that I can then restore and then save to my computer or Google Drive? I'm sure if I try and restore them, it would be more data than my "free" plan can hold. Thanks for any help & direction!

Thank you so much, Nancy ~ I was able to see them restored (I'm downloading now). I'm not 100% sure what I did (though I did go to my Microsoft Edge browser when things appeared to be working better). I'm now able to also see the restored files via my Google Chrome browser as well. This is a relief and answer to prayer ~ I appreciate your assistance!

How long ago did you delete them and did you downgrade them?

If it was over 30 days they are unrecoverable now I'm afraid.

Once you stop paying the deleted recovery window drops to 30 days. After that they are permanently removed - upgrading wont help.

I would have deleted them about a week and a half ago... definitely under 30 days. I don't know if I downgraded them? What does "downgrading" them mean? I was sent this email on Sept. 14, 2023: "This email confirms that your Dropbox Plus plan will not renew at the end of your subscription. You'll keep the additional space and features of your Dropbox Plus until Jan. 28, 2024. None of your files will be deleted once your space is reduced. However, if you're using more than 2.5 GB of space, you won't be able to add new files to your Dropbox.
If you do decide to come back to Dropbox Plus before Jan. 28, 2024, just click on the button below to resubscribe." Does this mean that since I've deleted the files about a week ago, they are now un-recoverable? Thank you for your help!

Hi @HS11! If the files were only deleted about a week ago, they should be recoverable (as long as you didn’t permanently delete them instead).

Did you also check your Events page? Do you see something more there, and if yes, can you recover them this way?

Hi Nancy ~ thank you for your help!

I was able to find the "Events" page with the link you sent. However, when I clicked on something to restore the files, it appears to "freeze" the page with a box that says "restoring files"... though it doesn't appear to be restoring anything. I'll go into my Dropbox and I don't see them restored. The files I am restoring are big files (picture files/folders) and I'm sure I will be well over my "basic plan's" storage amount when they do restore. Is it imperative that I upgrade my plan, if only for a month, to be able to download these files again? Also, when the files are restored, are they restored in the folders I had them in previously? Right now, they don't seem to have the same order as they did when I had them in my Dropbox originally. Thanks for any help you can provide!

In general, when restoring files/folders, they should be restored in the exact same location they were before the deletion.

Out of curiosity though, are you getting the same error via a different browser/incognito window?

That’ll help me assist you further.
