Where do find "Activity" and the "..." to import from Google Drive?

Not sure I am in the right category but....

I have a google sheets doc that somehow I have saved to my google drive account by mistake. When i look for instructions to move it to Dropbox I keep getting the following instructions:

I can't find the mentioned "..." to access the Activity menu item. What am I doing wrong. I tried a 3rd party app but it doesn't move as google shets. When I try to download it saves as xslx and but I have app script there I want to use and it doesn't apply.

What am i doing wrong??? How can I get it across?

I created directly in Google Sheets, I had a Dropbox file open and clicked on the sheets icon and it took me to wherever I ended up in

If you visit the homepage, try clicking the cog icon next to 'All files' and then 'Add from Google Drive'.

Note that any Google doc files would generally be stored on Google servers, for files created on Dropbox, so I'm not certain how your Sheets file would be handled after importing it.

It comes across as an excel file. I tried to 'open with' google sheets but it is still an xlsz doc with no app script

Thanks for the info, it's possible then that certain Google Sheets features won't work on this file when converted to an Excel file.

I still can access the google sheets doc directly in google sheets but it wont allow me to move or save it to Dropbox.

There is a version in my drive but it wont move over as a google sheets

As of a recent change, Google docs cannot be stored on Dropbox servers. This article contains more information regarding this matter.

I am really confused Jay. Does this mean I can't save them to Dropbox as a google sheets doc? I have to create the files in excel if I want to save to Dropbox? I have been working on this project for a company that wants to use Dropbox. Today is the first time I have had this experience and i have been working on this for a few weeks. I just spent days getting the action script to work. I was just about to finalise it. I can't even copy it to another file I still have in Dropbox. Is there a way to transfer action script over?

Its nearly midnight here I am going to have to come back to this tomorrow.

That's correct, it isn't possible to import any Google docs to Dropbox in their original file format.

This was already the case even before the recent change that all new Google docs created on Dropbox will reside on Google servers.

Can someone explain to me the situation with Dropbox and Google Sheets. Now as far as I understand it, now if I create a Google Sheets doc it won't save to Dropbox. It will automatically save to Drive. If I upload to Dropbox it converts to an xslx? Which doesn't help if I have action script there.

When i upload an xlsx I can't load it with macros so limited to what i can do.

I see all the warnings about March 2024 and Google Docs editor not being available.

Does that mean that the current Google suite won't be available and how will that affect the current files loaded in Dropbox that are Google?

Will there be enhancements to be able to upload fully functioning excel files, macros and all?

Can someone explain the implications in all this? Thanks in anticipation.

I'd be happy to help and explain as much as possible.

Now, as the Help Center mentions: Dropbox is changing the way that Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides are created and stored in Dropbox.

If you’ve created any Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides on dropbox.com, you’ll need to move or convert your files in order to maintain access to them.There are two options to do so:

-Move the files to Google Drive (GDrive) and replace them with Dropbox shortcuts. You’ll need to sign in and link to your Google Account in order to move files to Google Drive. Once the files have been moved, you’ll still have access to those files in Dropbox, but the file will show as a .web shortcut.

-Convert the Google files (.gdoc, .gsheet, .gslide) to the equivalent Microsoft Office file formats (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx).

Now, keep in mind that if you move your files to Google Workspace:

-No changes will be made to the file contents.
-File ownership will now be in Google, this means any sharing permissions won’t automatically be transferred to Google. You’ll need to choose if you wish to have the permissions/roles shared.
-Moving files manually to Google Drive will impact your Google storage capacity, but will also free up Dropbox storage.
-Dropbox shortcuts won’t track version history for changes made on Google Workspace. You’ll need to use Google Workspace for that.

Thanks for the information Megan, what if it is for an organisation where I am (as a separate identy was creating the spreadsheet and would load it onto their Dropbox account when finished. So the creating the link/shortcut would be fine when I am working on it but I am not sure how it would work from an organisations point of view. Would they need to have a google drive shared account?

Also the alternative solution, converting the doc to xlsx will they be looking at having enhancements to allow for the use of macros etc? The excel web is very limited in comparison.

Hey @DebraV, I'm guessing you're referring to the case you wish to share the content with someone, right?

You should be good to share the content with them, of course. Provided that it exists inside your Dropbox account.

As for the enhancements for the macros, we're still looking into this, as the changes gradually take place.

If my google doc files are already shortcuts in dropbox then I don't need to change anything? Is that correct?

Hi @GeorgiaS, did you create these Google docs in your Dropbox account recently, or a while ago?

Most of them are recent and are shortcuts.

Since March 1, our office's productivity has plummeted. Please make up with Google and allow us to open our dropbox files in the Google workspace. Links no longer work, formatting is completely off and our changes aren't being saved. This compatability should be easy. Please restore it.
