Dropbox Memory footprint increased after update on FileProvider API CloudStorage

Hi all,

On macOS M1 Max Sonoma 14.1, Dropbox used to take 650 MB in the Activity Monitor.

My Dropbox folder is 600 GB and has more than 130k files.

Now with the recent update on CloudStorage with the new FileProvider API, Dropbox takes 450 MB and an additional DropboxFileProvider takes 2.2 GB of memory

Is that a normal behavior ? Was the switch to the new API be supposed to increase RAM usage or is there a bug on my system ?

By the way, the app's version seems to be the latest, stable version of the app. You can track the app's builds from this page if you like.

As for the issue at hand, can you let us know if it persists after rebooting your computer and/or quitting and re-launching the app?

If it does, please send us a screenshot so that we can have a visual too.

To make sure we're on the same page, can you clarify the exact OS version of your computer and the version and status of the desktop app as shown in your menu bar?

Just want to make sure you're not using a beta version of our app, by any chance.

Also, what does your Activity monitor report?

Thank you for getting back to me. I'm using as I said macOS Sonoma Version 14.1 (23B74)

About Dropbox shows v186.4.6207

Dropbox download page https://help.dropbox.com/installs/download-dropbox doesn't give the number of the latest version so I can't be sure I'm running latest

Status in bottom bar is "Your files are up to date", the files have been properly moved from Documents to CloudStorage without issues (as far as I can see), I left it running during the night before I noticed the issue of memory footprint

Thanks Walter indeed after rebooting everything seems in order and it looks like it uses the same amount of memory than before the switch to CloudStorage
