If changing to online-only AFTER a drive is full, will dropbox move files from local drive to online so that free space increases?
Thanks.
This helped identify the problem.
Files deleted. Problem solved.

You need at least some free space so Dropbox can work. If you fill the drive completely, syncing stops.
How do I change to online only? I am doing what it says and it will not work. I am going crazy!!!
Hi @bradh0999, can you give us more information on how it isn't working, and the exact steps you're following?
This will help me to assist further!
I have the same problem.I want some folders to be online only (to free up space on my computer's disc).I go to Windows Explorer;I open the dropbox folder;I select the folder I want to put online only;Right-click on the folder;I don't have the "make online only" option
Hey @ppeixoto, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
Could you please let us know the desktop app's exact status and version as shown in your system tray at the moment?
Is it 'up to date' or still syncing perhaps?
Can you also send us a screenshot of the options you get when you right click on your files or folders inside your Dropbox folder?
Now I can see the options. However, despite having put almost all the folders in the "Make online-only" option, my disc is always full and I get notifications from dropbox saying that my disc is full.
Have you tried clearing the Dropbox cache folder to see if this helps?
Thank you. I already did that, but it didn't help. I still have the problem.I have 100 GB (107 427 745 583 bytes) in the Dropbox folder, of which 43.9 GB (47 167 643 648 bytes) is the size of the disc. But I have almost all the folders in make online-only.What if I move the Dropbox folder on my PC to another disc?
Hey @ppeixoto, could you send us a screenshot of where you're spotting the space discrepancy so that we can have a visual too?
If you'd like to move your Dropbox folder to another drive, you can follow the steps outlined here.
Hi @ppeixoto, the folders with the grey cloud icon are already online-only. Could you try marking the other folders with a green tick as online-only?
Could you also check and delete the Dropbox cache folder if it's there?
Hi @ppeixoto
Thanks. I had already deleted the Dropbox cache folder.
What I don't understand is precisely the fact that almost all the folders are already online-only and my C disc is suddenly full. That's not because there are two folders that aren't online-only.
Could you right click the Dropbox folder itself, and choose Properties, to determine the exact size on the disk of the folder?
Sure. Thanks.
Okay, so the size on disk is 21.7 GB, you'll need to check this manually on your machine by right clicking each folder and getting the properties, to see which folders are taking up space.
Something is taking up space in the Dropbox folder, so it could be those two folders, or another hidden folder somewhere. Have you tried enabling hidden folders in Explorer to see if there is a hidden folder or file taking up space?
No worries, glad to have helped out.
Just to clarify, were you able to find some hidden files, or certain folders that took up space? This info would help other users with similar issues in the future!
Hi @Jay
hidden files
Thanks, this is very helpful for other users! Enjoy your weekend!
Once I log in, where do I look to have it backup online only?
Hi @bradh0999, could you clarify what you mean in more detail, in order to assist further?
