How to rename the Dropbox root folder?

There is a post about this from 2015 with replies up to 2019 but the reply button is greyed out, hence I'm creating a new thread.

I'm guessing Dropbox couldn't be bothered to find a solution so instead, they just silence their customers. Interesting.

Guess what, it's 2022 and users still need an option to rename their folder.

I recently upgraded to dropbox business and it renamed my entire dropbox folder from 'Dropbox' to..... '[xyz] Dropbox'.

Yup, you guessed it- all file links incl. professional software I rely upon broken, causing thousands of wasted hours. The solution? Rename the folder back to just 'Dropbox'. Do dropbox allow this simple rename? Apparently not.

7 years after that first thread with thousands of complaints from users, Dropbox still hasn't enabled a simple 'rename' functionality.

My question here: "Has anybody found a way to rename the root dropbox folder?????"

The root folder cannot be renamed. It's simply not possible. Create a symlink called Dropbox and point it to the newly renamed folder.

That doesn't solve the problem as it defeats the object of having the same path as it used to be.

Path it used to be: Dropbox

New stupid path: xyz Dropbox

New path with symlink: Dropbox/xyz Dropbox

I found a solution:

it turns out xyz is the [team name] that you can find in Dropbox settings on the admin side of the website.

Do THIS:

Renaming the team name in dropbox settings to 'Dropbox'.

(I luckily found this out after a lot of digging. Now I just need to find out how & when dropbox's folder name will update itself...)

Just create a junction that point to the dropbox root folder.

My problem is more serious because my system is Chinese and dropbox change my root folder with space and Chinese words. All codes inside the folder cannot be compiled.

With this method, I can compile my code. (But still need to pause Dropbox while compiling because Dropbox is locking the file)
