This should be evidence enough proof as to why ON/OFF is needed. Still looking for a PRIVATE way to upload and manage MY media. It's sad that DropBox doesn't get it. Are they holding out for more money - borderline extortion if we don’t want OUR private data shared. WOW!
Stephanie thank you for responding - takes guts with this crowd. :-) Seriously, with all do respect, it can appear to some, that product managers - DropBox, has spent little time using their product in a practical sence. Not everyone uses the same computer and browser to display, show and edit their content. Hence, the need for a drop box. Please correct me if I am wrong, what you are saying is if we use the same computer and browser with same history and cookies to access the DropBox it will reopen the app back to the same page we left off? Sorry, don't want that feature either. Please, allow us to control the content of OUR drop box. I for one, am looking for a service that will. I cannot believe, especially after reading this thread, that I am the minority opinion on this, “feature?”.
iPhone SOLUTION
This works on my iPhone 5c
1. Select file you want removed from recent list.
2. Make available offline.
3. Go back to recents
4. select offline on bottom of iPhone
5. select file in offline list
6. Remove from device.
7. go back to recents and you will see it is gone.
You will also want to go to DropBox.Com with your browser and delete the recents on their website a file at a time.
Recent file "overview" list is just piling up, makes no sense, and privacy is big time busted.
Of course it should be possible to clear history, or at least you should be given the choice to select somethings like "show no recent list" , "today's history list", "one week.." .. "Month..." "Indefinite.."
DB, why are you holding back an update on this issue..??
Thanks outsidethebox,
I read your surgestion and i have no doubt it works fine, but it is a timeconsuming way of solving an issue that should be easy to solve for DB. Yesterday I added some 50 dokuments.. I cant spend my time deleting each and every one like you describe..
rgds.
Yes I get that and I think it only works if you also deleted the document/photo from dropbox.
Theres are answer - we need to delete everything we have in dropbox. Just heard it is not removed even if it is deleted. THIS IS THEFT. Permission to steal you private documents must be in the fine print - WE ALL NEED TO DELETE EVERYTHING and find a new service that is professional and private.
Glad this works for you, I use my dropbox on a professional level. I uploaded 2,000 photos the other day. Dont have the time to do this with every file. Conveluted and Unexceptable that DropBox will not provide a quality product with trying to extort more money. It is truly the lowest form of hatred that I give this violation of my privacy. Anyone found a replacement to DropBox yet? I will pay double what I spend on dropbox if I can keep my data privat and not have to fight with this school yard setup.
Do a search, there are a couple out there and you can set up your own cloud with "NextCloud" or "OwnBox"
They are free open source solutions that you can host yourself or host on a hosting service such as Siteground.com ( Recommended) http://siteground.com My opinion based on lots of experience- SiteGround is hands down the best hosting service available.
They have auto installs for both Nextcloud and owncloud as well as Joomla, wordpress and a bunch of other solutions.
http://nextcloud.com/ and https://owncloud.com/
Thank you very much I am on it. Just found out what is going on. DropBox is trying to get more money out of us for the same service. I can delete the stuff I dont want as long as I update/pay more for the same product. Thank you OutSideTheBox for a great tip - I'm out-of-here, waste of money waste of time. May have to call for legal advice to get my private documents deleted from this site for good.
EXTORTION
I am currently using DropBox but also NextCloud - ( which is basically OwnCloud )
Hope one of those solutions works for you. If you decide to go to a hosting service I mentioned SiteGround but I did not tell you why. A couple of reasons, they are vigorously proactive on security, - auto updates and hardware upgrades. They recently upgraded all of their servers to solid state drives.
Let us know how it works out for you.

This is a disturbing answer: these are files that are stored in Dropbox anyway. Well, yes. But if the latest file I have worked on is a draft personnel evaluation and then I need to hand my device to my assistant, I don't want that file popping up in recents. I am confident this person would not rummage through my files uninvited. But one can hardly ignore an unfortunate "recents" file that is at the top of the list and staring you in the face. This applies to financil and legal disclosure as well. Finally, as several writers mentioned, many of us have both business accounts and personal accounts. Really the last thing I want is some silly file, or personal bank application, or -- worse yet -- inappropriate photograph topping my recents file. I can see that some people might find this useful; I do not. I virtually never go to "recents" as a shortcut. I find it strictly an annoyance, and a huge security risk. Perhaps this has been fixed in the latest version. I hope so. In other respects you offer a fine service. But I will drop it for me, and my company, if you can't get this fixed. One more thing that would be useful: make it easy to place either you personal file or your business file as the default.
Still hasn't been addressed nearly 2 years later. This is the type of issue that makes DropBox a poor tool when privacy is required (I do M&A work). Not to mention starting Dropbox with the Recents as the opening page, including showing deleted files, is a disaster in my line of work. My partner already went elsewhere and that's where I'm heading after seeing this response.
How is this still not a feature?
We should be able to:
a) Clear the recents files list
b) Disable the feature entirely.
Like pretty much any other app, e.g. Youtube.
Mm210 wrote:You do need to add this. Or a default view when the app is first opened.
The default view is whatever the last view was. Open the app, switch to Files, close the app. Next time you open it you'll be on the Files view.
My issue is that in my laptop there is no function to remove current data from the available files on DT's list. NOw my box is full and I can't add more without buying in to their program. Ijust want to clean it up and re-use my space. Why can't they have a simple solution? Some of my files are intended for one entity and now they simply take up space. Gimme a break!

That's a completely different issue to what this topic is discussing. Please start a new topic and we'll probably be able to help you.

If you're referring to a shared folder, then please read this help article.
Still no option to disable recent file list, so I'd better will stop using Dropbox. Was good until that.
