Stuck "importing photos..."

My dropbox is set to auto import/upload my iphone photos, which it is doing. But it keeps telling me it's "importing photos..." and the menubar symbol is constantly the camera symbol that usually comes up when its importing. It's like its stuck.

Any help?

System: Macbook Pro, OSX El Capitan.

Can I join the queue? Running OS X El Capitan 10.11.5, DB 5.4.24 and importing via iPhone 6S. DB 'import' icon constantly there and view import progress just stuck. Been like this for several months despite trying all the above.Not very upbeat on anything getting sorted anytime soon...

I'm really close to using iCloud for photos again... I REALLY don't want to do that.

First Carousel is killed off, which did a great job managing space on the iPhone for photos. Now, I have to open up the iOS dropbox app to get photos off the device... kinda annoying. Even with iOS dropbox background uploading enabled.

On my wife's phone is more annoying b/c she doesn't have as much local storage on the phone as I do.

Always the camera icon, always importing. Never know what Dropbox is actually doing. Syncing/Importing/Stuck ...

I've had this problem in the past when Dropbox tries to import large video files from my iPhone. Copying over them to my drive and then deleting them from my iPhone helped.

Now I'm having this problem again, after rebuilding the iCloud Photos library on my iPhone. There's no large videos in there this time, so I'm unsure why this is happening now.

Based on my previous problems, it's probably some "offending" (from Dropbox's perspective) photo or video causing the hangup.

When it's stuck in this state, it's actually proper stuck and no syncing will happen (including normal Dropbox syncing over WAN/LAN). The only solution is to quit Dropbox and restart, and disable Import of Photos until you can figure out what may be the problem.

The only solution is to stop using Dropbox for photo storage. I'm sure it's Apple, having changed something in order for iPhones to use iCloud more exclusively.

Dropbox is for business efficiency, and maybe we just shouldn't try to use it for things like pictures. Google Drive is working very well for that, as does iCloud if you pay for it.

I just used Image Capture on my Mac to import the photos. Obviously Dropbox has failed.

This thread has gotten old. Guys, you can keep ranting about our broken Dropbox software and I hope it makes you feel better. Please know if Dropbox were going to do anything about it, they have had over a year to do so and it would already be done. As for this crap. I found the best solution is to shut off picture import on your Macbook and turn on picture export on your phone. It works. And now, a moment of silence to acknowledge Dropbox's silence on this matter. Shame.

I have the same thing happening, it's stuck on the camera icon, and I don't even have an iphone or any photos to sync.

I have been in contact with Dropbox support concerning this issue a couple of months ago. After they had me doing several non-sensical troubleshooting steps that just felt like a waste of time (reinstalling Dropbox, resyncing everything from scratch, etc) I finally got word that their engineers are aware of this issue.

However, I'm not hopeful that they are actually going to do something about it soon. I get the feeling that they really just want to discontinue this feature, or maybe they don't have the resources to fix it right now.

Maybe if more people pressure Dropbox about this issue, will it eventually be fixed.

It's ridiculous that they don't fix it. They're a growing company and doing well. It's a known issue, and we pay a ton for our business account, like most people. If I wanted Microsoft style support, I'd use SkyDrive.

I think it has to do with photos on the iphone that were modified in color and brightness. my wife's iphone 6s imports normally but my iphone 6s plus does not. The only difference is that i modified some of the pictures in my phone to upload on fb. It is hard to undo those changes since im uploading lots of pictures and videos from a vacation in Europe.

stuck at "15 minutes" for half hour.

No new photos or videos are imported.

Some files are added to [dropbox cache] folder.

I need to kill the app and re-launch it.

Still the same problem, stuck at "About 10 minutes left", photos and videos are in .dropbox.cache

Stuck problem is still reprodused in Dropbox v13.4.21 under macOS Sierra 10.12.1

You may be able to solve this by resetting your camera uploads feature on your device. Go into your settings, and disable and enable camera uploads. This article will show you how to do it on any device https://www.dropbox.com/help/307

Exactly the same problem, but on MacOS Sierra. In the end, I gave up on using the Mac version of the app and uploaded the images directly from my iPhone. That seemed to work...

Problem is, when you do it via the device, it cant optimize the photo storage so you end up running out of space....

I think that is the whole problem here. The iCloud Photos optimises the storage and puts a smaller versnio on the phone.

My guess is it has to download the full photo before Dropbox can sync it.
