I want to clear all the Recent file list, there has no clear function please advise how to clear the list. Thanks & regards
Swe Tin
@Ian I:
That's not trivial at all!! I'm surprised you're so cool about it, honestly. What's rather trivial is having porn pop up when you're trying to share work with your co-workers haha.
Thanks, dropbox!
Still waiting for this, which was raised over a year ago. You have a clear search history button. Just add a clear recent list button below and be done with it. If it's a dynamic list that can't be cleared, then just save the time stamp when it was cleared, and filter out changes before that date.
It's just a minor fix for a major issue. I have confidential files in my work Dropbox, and I have to be very careful when opening my Dropbox app in front of others, depending on what recent files I have worked with.
Option to disable it entirely would be best in some cases, but for now I could live with a clear button.
Worse than the lack of a simple fix is Dropbox's ignoring of a thread that goes back over a YEAR asking for help. Do any Dropbox administrators read these forums?
The forums are primarily user-supported. While a Dropboxer (that's a Dropbox employee) does post on occasion, it's not often. For direct communication with Dropbox you need to open a ticket with Support.
They do read posts such as this and they bring your feedback to the various development teams, but they rarely, if ever, comment on when or if a feature will change. When and if it does, we'll know about it when it's released.

While that might be true, Marie [dropboxer] answered the initial post after 8 hours, and repeatedly afterwards. Now the thread is 8 pages long, going back a year. I work with software development too, and when you have this amount of feedback - no matter the source (forums, tickets whatever) - it means you have an issue you need to take a look at.
Hi Thomas, hi everyone,
If you go back to page 7 or 6 of this thread, you'll be able to find my last posts. While I won't always reply to this thread, I can reassure you that myself as well as the product manager for Recents are reading your updates. We do hear your concerns and take them seriously. For example we recently changed the default behavior of the app which now allows you to re-open the app back onto the page where you left it. This means that the app won't open on the Recents page anymore, if you leave it on the file browser. We are considering making some big changes to the landing page in the app in the long term (2017). For this and any other related projects we will keep your feedback in mind. Please keep it coming and rest assured that this thread is not going unnoticed.
Regards,
Sofia
What we need is a way to configure the app so that we don't have to hit the "file" tab before closing.
Hi Sofia
Sorry, I didn't read through all 7 pages, so I've not seen your earlier replies. Glad to hear you are aware of this thread, and looking forward to seeing the results in 2017. Some might find that to be a long time frame, but software development sometimes takes time, I get that.
Thanks for the tip about switching tab before exiting, that might be handy for my situation.
Best regards,Thomas
No problem and please keep your feedback coming. We do appreciate it!
Perhaps what we need to do is to draw attention to this post from "popular" technology related sites (Engadget, CNET, PCMag, LifeHacker, etc.) and if any of them dare to publish something about it, we might get the attention from Dropbox (to prevent the bad publicity).
I'm a software developer myself and most of my friends are also developers from Mobile to PC to Web and even though I know things take time, such a basic feature would never take so long. Specially with so many people requesting it!
I appreciate your attention but, it's been months since I bought my premium account and, from the first time I used the iOS app I noticed this issue and I haven't uploaded anything else to Dropbox, yet I'm still paying (Silly me!).
It isn't so much the mobile product that was my issue, it was the "Recently Changed" popup from the tray on the desktop which revealed the photo of my recently purchased engagement ring to my then-to-be fiance.
I would like an option in preferences to say "Show recently changed" Yes / No.
And on mobile, an option either to "clear recents list" or better still, turn the damn thing off completely.
If it's not possible to turn it off (I can't see why, but still) then at least have a folder which can be marked as "confidential" or something, so that it never displays in either recently changed or recents, but this seems more difficult to implement than a "turn it off" option to be honest.
While I appreciate everyones thoughts and opinions on this issue, I would like to point out to all of the people saying "just get rid of the recents option all together - please realize that you may not like or want the feature, there are many users out there who do like it! So in your frustration, please remember to be mindful of other users and take their wants and likes with the feature into consideration. That said, out of mutual respect, please don't send dropbox requests to just get rid of it entirely! Request that the feature be able to be turned off/on at each individual users request. When you say things like "just get rid of it", you are attempting to speak for everyone else and that's not only unfair of you, it's disrepectful and selfish! Please and Thank You!Have a blessed day!
There are plenty of suggestions to make it configurable or a turn on/turn off feature, however you chose to use the "get rid of it" comments to criticize peoples opinions. If somebody has that opinion it is their right to say so.
We do not need behavior preaching in forums or blessing my day.
If you want to say instead that it seems as if dropbox is not addressing this issue you would be one more vote in favor of a change.
I just came across this "recents" problem. I consider it a major problem that should have been eliminated years ago. The sheer lack of foresight is rather appalling given the nature of security concerns on the internet. If you design for cloud service, then such user interface problems ought be taken into consideration before roll out. I'd love to hear why someone thought having "recents" was a good idea.
Appalling this thread has gone on this long, utterly appalling, and for such a simple fix. Just add a 'clear recents history', how hard can it be? As a business, you MUST learn to listen to your customers Dropbox. But too late for most of us, GOODBYE DROPBOX :-(
I love Dropbox but this still being an issue is absurd. Just give users a little toggle to enable/disable the Recents view. It can default to enabled for new users if it's valuable to you for whatever reason. You're not the only game in town anymore for my subscription.
I think I figured it out. I signed into google on my cell phone. then I went to the recent photos I took and deleted them. Then I checked the messages app on my phone. In the recent file it showed the photos were gone but they still showed up in the messages attachments. I then opened the messages attachments and clicked on the photo that I wanted to delete. It showed up in the text as an attachment. I then deleted the text and went back to the recent photos and the photo was gone. I did that for another photo and it worked. I hope this helps. P.S. I not an expert or close. Just fumbling around.
Sorry, either what you are reporting is not clear or does not belong into this thread.
We are talking about dropbox ignoring customer wishes to make displaying recent files
option configurable.
Nothing has to be deleted for this to happen.
They made all kinds of changes (for example touch id recognition) and can't add a toggle within a year?
Really?
Weak drop box.
Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that comment made no sense.
Cameron, the only part of your message that made sense was "I not an expert". Even then, you got that wrong.
Is there any update on this function? I would like to clear files in "Recents" so that others are not able to view files that were previously opened. This is a family account that we all share - this is a privacy issue. It is almost time for me to renew my subscription..I won't be renewing because of this issue.
Everyone... Please refrain from the personal attacks... towards Dropbox, the Super Users and the other commenters, or this thread will be closed. Keep it civil and on topic. Thank you.
Maybe if the problem were fixed the personal attacks would cease. They arise from nearly 2 years of inaction on what seems to be a simple problem.
Rich R.,
That is an interesting way to deal with a real problem.
This entire thread at that length (over one year) would not exist if dropbox was doing something about it.
You have developers posting here who claim that a preferences on off toggle would not be that hard to
implement.
As for personal attacks, we should take that as people venting their frustration about the apparent non action.
Not everybody can stay calm and collected when they feel they are being ignored.
Telling people that "We will take it to the dropbox development team" may be okay for a month or so,
but what is going on here is really unacceptable.
The majority of the comments is made by reasonable people and "on topic".
That is what you should go by, not the few inappropriate ones.
Thank you
What he said.
So annoyed by this answer. Sick and tired of hearing NO YOU CANNOT REMOVE YOUR INFORMATION AND THERE IS NO WAY TO STOP DROPBOX FROM STEALING THIS INFORMATION. Sick of this lame excuse and "I will pass this on to th..." Well them make a way to remove the date that belongs to us!
+1 this would be a very appreciated feature in both mobile and web versions of Dropbox.
Please stop forcing us to share our private information when we do not want to. We want it removed. No personal attack. I, personally, would like a "DropBox" that is designed for adult use, not geared towards 16 year old school kids. I dont need this program telling me my activity. I am perfectly capible of monitoring it myself.
