I want to clear all the Recent file list, there has no clear function please advise how to clear the list. Thanks & regards
Swe Tin
Rich, I am sorry but the way you respond is like a lawyer representing dropbox, and not at al like a peer user.
Dropbox on android with all of it's obstacles is a showcase of poor design. And yes, unfortunately I will have to migrate me and my family away from dropbox as this company is going down the drain due to it's attitude..
Competition is from Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Apple, Box which are all more customer centric than dropbox.
And please look up 'official' in a dictionary first. Dropbox is not an authority nor public body. They are however world champion customer base ignoring.
Dropbox is not an authority
They are over their own policies and procedures. Also:
Now let's please keep this thread on topic. If you're wish to further discuss the Recents feature that is fine, but anything else related to these forums, my function here or Dropbox's policies and procedures should be left to another thread or a support request. Thank you.
I would recommend to stick to the Oxford dictionary.
Anyway Rich, I would appreciate it if you stop behaving like a lawyer on behalf of Dropbox.
In Europe we don't appreciate people who pretend to be better because they consider themselves as reprentatives.
Dropbox has a serious issue with listening to customers.
It is sad if you consider yourself defender of that....
Rich,
You are putting yourself ahead of the community by FIRST responding to William's email about the definition of "official" and only THEN declaring it to be off thread. If it was off thread and you care about the integrity of the thread then you should restrain from adding your last word to the thread before telling others to move on. You are baiting a response unnecessarily. His frustration with this feature is relevant to the community.
Specific UI decisions necessarily impact some users more than others. This forum gives users a chance to express these impacts in a way that can be influential to an engineering team's prioritization process. This is a feature that will cause some users to leave Dropbox and will leave others with a diminished value from the product. Dropbox is almost certainly monitoring these posts directly whether they weigh in or not. Knowing that some users are turned off by the feature is important but it is also important that Dropbox be aware that users would prefer that they comment from time to time about feature requests.
No they don't have to comment but William is right to post that it would be better for some users and much appreciated if they did. Dropbox isn't a nonprofit volunteering their time to cure world hunger. They are a technology company trying to sell a file storage product and a UI solution to interface with it. As such, their only connection to long term success and relevancy is to fully understand how the customers react to their product and to build a brand relationship base. William is giving good feedback which at least some others would agree with and are happy to see expressed on this thread.
Rich: The forums are a community primarily for user to user support.
Then give some support instead of just defending yourself or the crappy Recent feature!
Unfortunately I'm sure most people here know my opinions on the shambolic implementation of Recents across Dropbox. I've told anybody I can find in person or online exactly what I feel of it and why its (in my opinion) down right dangerous.
However, ultimately, it is not possible to remove or hide or clear the list. As idiotic as that seems (and I am 100% behind you guys on that) this is as simple as it is I'm afraid
The only work around I have is it make sure when logging on you visit www.dropbox.com/home as that will bypass the recents page - even if you need to log in.
Well, time to call it a day - I've already moved most of my files to Google Drive, with the exception of a few shared folders that I need to leave on DB for now.
I'm fed up with receiving notifications that there are updates to this thread, when they almost all say the same thing: users are unhappy, and Rich is trying to defend the indefensible.
I'm unsubscribing from notifications, as it's clear that nothing is going to happen.
Bye.
Ok, it's been months now. I appreaciat Dorpbox, and never, NEVER have I had problems or complained. The whole project is just very well, put together an expedited.
Up until today. I do have a complain now. I've wrote about it and got a typical answer (alway polite and all) and a client satisfaction form for the service. Didn't answer as nothing has bee improved. So many people seem to be arguing against it, yet nothing is done.
When I open my computer I see my files like they are on my desktop. When I open a folder I see all the files in them, like I've put them. Why on earth would I want to open my folder and see the last files I used ?! It's bluffing my brain really ? Aside from the fact that someone could be behind my back and glance my recently used files which could be private pictures or anything for that matter (pictures appear in small), I just dealt with those recent files, I'm moving on. If I've made a mistake it's my fault so I go back to the folder in question.
I understand some people maybe work this way. In which case it has to be an option, not beng 'recent files" by default !
This issue has been ongoin for around 6 months now, and I wonder how many more clicks I need to do EVERY SINGLE TIME from recent to go to files and choose the location I need to go to.
So please, lets go with some kind of change...And one a note: I actually realised that for at least the past 6months, you take the times to close discussions, redirect people to this discussion, and yet nothing is done about the actuall issue.
Hi all,
Thanks very much for your contributions to this thread. I wanted to let you all know that we are monitoring this discussion very closely and your comments are being forwarded to our product, design and engineering teams. The decision makes are aware of the privacy and usability concerns you have about the Recents tab. We are currently in the process of doing a product review and designing the next version of Recents. Your feedback is being taken into account for this. While I cannot make any official promises or share any updates of our roadmap yet, I did want to at least give an update here.
We will keep you in the loop about the developments. While this forum is mainly moderated by users and super users (thank you Mark and Rich for your contributions!), Dropboxers from all departments are also keeping an eye on it. So please do keep the feedback coming!
Thank you Sofia,
This is very appreaciated.
Good day all...
Sofia
Sorry, but reversal of poor design decisions is about a few simple questions, not a complex product road map.
Questions are straight forward. Is Dropbox committed to:
If by now, dropbox still can't answer these questions, then this proves Dropbox is fully disconnected from it's user base and has no customer focused road map in place.
I wish I don't have to migrate away from Dropbox, but the way Dropbox has been responding to the community is appauling. Please stop moderation by other users who then feel empowered to beat up your customers and take management of your community actively into your own hands.
Thank you Sofia, I just came to discuss the same thing as I ran into a very embarrassing issue when a client saw a very personal file while I was loading up the app to show a product image. Suffice it to say I will not be opening the dropbox app in front of anyone again until I'm certain I can disable recents.
It's been almost a year, I've not seen one user that likes the feature and so unfortunately it's reached the point where I'm starting to move all my stuff to alternate providers.
Thank you dropbox, you were a great pioneer but you guys really dropped a bollock on this and letting it drag on do long showed a complete disregard for your users.
Adios.
As a direct result of this issue, my company has decided not to sign up for Dropbox for business with 6 user licences, we have now signed up with another provider after waiting too long for this to be resolved.
It's a shame that such an easily resolved issue is having such a negative impact, the lack of customer focus is a huge driver in a competitive market.
I have now moved all my files to Box. I'm keeping a dropbox account for the folders other people still share with me. With that, I'm signing out from this thread, expecting nothing from dropbox.
Adding my vote to suppress items in the recent list, clear the full list, or disabling the list
Come on Dropbox. We need these features ASAP!
I just purchased the "pro" version and in less than 48 hours I'm desperately joining the petition to allow us to clear and hide the "recent" files. This is a very annoying issue and concerns to user privacy.
I'm a software developer and I know it shouldn't take so long to add such feature. To whom should we address our concern?
Please, help us!
I've been a subscribed user for a long time and it seems this privacy issue won't get addressed. My cancelled subscription won't phase you, but understand that this problem is severe enough to consider moving my business elsewhere as well as have my team use a different service. A simple "Clear Recent" or "Disable Recent" is all that is needed to satisfy this concern.
June 3rd 2016....... in case i was to stupid to pay attention, is there yet any cure for the recent default in this god-forsaken app? No. Wow.... I guess I'm not the stupid one.
DROPBOX. DOES. NOT. CARE.
Can we get OP to edit his original post?? Put that in BIG LETTERS so ANY ONE coming here expecting Dropbox to give a squat about its customers can simply just stop wasting their time, and find a competitor to go with. In fact, can we just point them to the "Who the best competitor to switch to" thread? I'll go create one...
If this isn't an official Dropbox forum, that should be no problem right?
I posted a request to revoke rights from these so called super users so the interfering stops and dropbox has to make a start with listening.https://www.dropboxforum.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/206857926-Revoke-super-users-from-this-forum
Moving my service to box. My company is also looking to sign up 70 users to box, as well as us becoming a reseller due to the fact Dropbox don't care.
Hey, I just noticed. Dropbox opens to Files view now. I've tried a few times. No longer defaults to Recents. I guess they listened! Thanks guys.
Main problem is to clear the recent file list, not the default view. Even they change the default view still not able to clear the recently view file list. What we are requesting is similar to clear recycle bin or clear the history.
I'm adding my .02 .... This feature is a horrible decision for me. I've been a dropbox user for almost 10 years. Yesterday I had a choice to make Google Drive or Dropbox Pro. You guys just made that decision simple and easy.
I understand the decision to try this and maybe I understand the decision to implement it. BUT when you have user after user giving the very clear reasons why we dont like this, why stay with it ?? Is it worth your reputation ? Is it worth all the hard work you put into being a pioneer in the consumer cloud storage space ?
It's time to let go of the egos and listen to your users, before you lose more.
- Martin
Yes, it appears that default behavior is changed. Now opening Dropbox puts you in the file view last used, which will naturally be FILES for serious users. And you can still use RECENTS in those rare events you ever need to.
Thanks Dropbox
Thanks? No Sir. The issue is not the initial default view. It is the view itself and not being able to clear it or disable it.
To me this is just the development team staying to costumers, let us tell you what you want, We want you to like what is the easiest thing for us to implement. Now shhh ...
Plus, I don't know how the "default behaviour" has changed, I open my android and by default it's always go to the recent. I have the most up to date version and I waited a few days to make sure not update was coming.
Nop, nothing changed, if I worked a sensitive document recently, people with visual access to my screen when I open my dropbox app will see it.
it's been how long now, 6 month this issue... let's see how much longer will it take...
I've not posted here before. I found this forum from Google while looking for how to clear the results or remove sensitive files from it. To find out Dropbox has registered this issue twelve months ago and failed to listen to their customers is quite disappointing. I'm a pro user but I am now going to move my custom elsewhere.
It's sad but having now witnessed that Dropbox doesn't care about the rest of you and is quite happy to ignore your comments for over a year, I doubt they will care another Pro user just left.
