if you have some of the turkish characters (like capital i in Turkish, which is İ) in your file name, dropbox do not synchronize, I realized it but it was too late, I lost lots of things... Please solve this problem..
Hi Volkan,
This is actually because Dropbox works in a case-insensitive nature on Windows and Mac OS X (both operating systems are case insensitive). This means that when Dropbox tries to write to the file, it uses the lowercase version of the path/file name, however with İ, there are no case-insensitive equivalents and so the files can't be synced.
We don't currently have a good solution for this, so to get your files syncing you'll need to use the lower case versions of these characters in file and path names.
Sorry about that!
This problem causes really big problem for us. Sometimes I forget and use İ on folder names but then when I discover it can not sync, ı try to delete or rename filename but somehow its reborn!!! So dropbox sync that folder but it done with problem. I can not figure out. As a professional user I really fedup about this. I think it time to say goodbye
Hi Demetrios,
I've also lost lots of files because of this bug. It's really really stupid of dropbox to do something like this, and please don't say there is nothing to be done in this case because as a developer, I wrote lots of programs to deal this kind of staff. I recommended dropbox to everyone I know but not anymore. I'll move my remaning files as soon as possible.
I agree, this problem should be solved asap, it shouldnt be so difficult for dropbox. I think it is a shame...
Using lower case versions is not an acceptable solution for this bug. How other cloud storage providers handle this situation without any problem?
Well, this is not acceptable. Capital "i" in Turkish (which is "İ") is a Unicode letter and iCloud supports this letter without any problem. If iCloud can, why can't Dropbox? This is an annoying bug among every Turkish user. I hope Dropbox will solve this soon.
I am really fed up with this!!! I lost many files and spend hours to change every TR character in filenames... Good bye till you solve this issue.
So you tell us that dropbox programmers cannot convert uppercase "İ" letter to lowercase "i" ?
And the solution is... they cannot change even a single line of the dropbox codes... so, you millions of turkish people have to change billions of folder names...
that's what we deserve ?
Hi Kubilay,
Better solution, move on to OneDrive/GoogleDrive or another provider that does NOT have a STUPID problem like this even though they DO WORK in a case-insensitive nature on Windows and Mac OS X
Hi Yücel,
I'm a Google Drive user for almost 8 years (since it was Google Docs)... i decided to leave drive, today
The reason is... Google Drive cannot protect my data and i lost lots of important files... and yes, this is a big problem but Google Drive can learn how to solve this.
On the other side; Dropbox thinks that converting uppercase "İ" to lowercase is a big problem...
And... my friend, the biggest problem here is this!
Well said!
Google Drive, OneDrive, Windows, Macintosh, Unix, Linux all the operating systems that I know of and all the sync applications out there, all of them handle Turkish characters without ANY problem. And all of them are case in-sensitive.
"...it uses the lowercase version of the..."
If dropbox didn't try to convert to lower case when writing, there would be no issue. Why convert to lower case in the first place? Just copy the file/directory as is.
Its a big problem that dropbox does not sync the files which starts with "İ". I have seen a reply above who says dropbox sync files with lowercase and there is no lowercase letter of "İ". Lowercase letter of "İ" is "i".
Thi is an unacceptable bug. better remove Turkish support from dropbox!
Turkish is a widely used language in the world. I hope one day Dropbox supports the Turkish Language.
Windows and many widely used Cloud softwares support the Turkish Characters without any issues.
Thank you
It is very upset but this problem still alive.
We try to delete a folder since 2 years. DİSTİ named.
It keep coming back.
@Erkan G. Rename the folder in the web browser to "delete". Wait for 3-5 sec. Then delete the folder in the web browser. Works for me. Folder name could be anything but i İ ı I
Please fix it anymore
@Omer , thanks your suggestion worked. Ot is funny to do many steps just to delete a folder.
The problem still alive. I think you afraid to solve it because of to lost most users files, normally this shouldn't be hard to solve the capital "i" problem. By the way, year is 2016, but dropbox still not support the "Turkish Language"! Maybe you couldn't realized that size of the Turkish Market. Your competitors support the Turkish Language, why we have to prefer you?
Demetrios, I am sorry to tell you that but your answer is not acceptable. Please think once more.
Regards.
I have two files in a dropbox folder with Turkish text. One is MS Word, the other PDF. Text is identical.
I cannot copy either of these files from Drop Box to my Windows 7 desktop. It just stalls.
I can, however, copy/paste these two files into macOS. I can also copy/paste them within Windows 7. Just can't copy from Drop Box, then paste into Windows 7.
This prevented me from copying a Drop Box folder that had hundreds of folders and files in it. Finally after copying and pasting individual subsets of folders, I found the culprit. Interesting that it happens with Word and also PDF.
Hahaha, 2 sene geçmiş halen bir çözüm üretememiş dropbox... Demetrios pek takmamış demekki bizi... Boşverin, başka bulut mu yok?
Başka bulut olmaz mi. Epeydir araştırıyorum. Sync su an favorim.
Sync'i bir inceleyeyim bakayım. Bakmadan önce sorayım, versiyon kaydediyor mu?
Hele ki son kullanıcı hesaplarının satılması olayından sonra artık Dropbox'ın güvenirliği iyice sorgulanır oldu. Sync alternatifler arasında en üst sıralarda. Deneyelim bakalım.
Versiyon kaydediyor.
Hello,
I have problem with uppercase versions of "i" as Turkish character.
Is there a way to find all files/folders in dropbox with capitalized i and change them with lower case ?
You could try going to www.dropbox.com/home and using the search bar in the top right?
Note that once you've found them you will need to rename them yourself, there isnt a tool to do that for you.
