Downloading and auto update with 5tb external

I have ~2tb on Dropbox. My pc has 1 tb so I have selected the few I need all the time. However, I want EVERYTHING to back up to a 5tb external. The instructions seem to call for using the pc as a 'landing place'. Can't do so because I have only 1 tb on pc.

There is no way to do this with Dropbox I'm afraid.

Everything on Dropbox needs to be local, at least initially. There may be third party backup tools which can do it but not via Dropbox natively.

What if I skip the pc hard drive altogether and just use the external? is that 'native' or does Dropbox require an actual PC to be involved?

Hi Walter, yes I am new to Dropbox community! Sorry I skipped your other response. I'm not sure what I'm doing as per the Dropbox Backup feature. My real concern is just making sure everyting I have is backed up on the external drive all the time (or at least after midnight or such).

You can sync to external drives but it is not recommended due to the high risk of data loss. If it disconnects or connects slowly you can risk loosing files.

What about using Offline files instead? Thats how I manage it.
