How can I upload some large files to a Dropbox user?

Hi!

I recently started a small video digitizing business where I convert MiniDV, VHS, VHS-C and 8mm tapes to digital files for customers.

One of my customers has a Dropbox Family subscription with lots of storage available. The customer wants me to upload the finished video files directly into THEIR Dropbox storage.

The issue is:

* My own Dropbox account is the free 2GB plan
* When the customer shares a folder with me, Dropbox says I don’t have enough storage space to upload large files
* The files are very large (MiniDV AVI files can be 10–14GB per tape)

What is the best way for the customer to let me upload files directly into their Dropbox account/storage without using my own storage quota?

Would “File Request” be the correct solution?

Or is there another better workflow for this situation?

If you upgrade to a paid plan, you can create a Dropbox Transfer that can contain files of 50 GB, or greater, depending on the plan.

Additionally, you could instead join the shared folder that the user originally created, in order to sync the files there, which would appear on their account as well.

Yes, in general, a file request would be the exact feature to use in this situation. The other user would need to create a file request, and then send you the link which will let you upload the files to their Dropbox account directly.

However, for Dropbox Family plans, the maximum file size would be 2 GB in total, so the files that you created would be too large to upload to that user's account. There is also the Dropbox Transfer feature, but it also has a maximum of 2 GB for the size of the transfer itself for your account.

As you have a Basic account with 2 GB of quota, there wouldn't be another method to directly share or transfer these large files to that user.
