The new macOS Tahoe is arriving. Is Dropbox ready this time?

Will Dropbox be ready in advance for the macOS Tahoe update? Or do we need to wait and see what breaks this round?

We all remember the fun with the last two macOS releases - and “fun” is putting it mildly. Have there already been issues? Can someone please speak up - before it’s too late?

For now, I’m holding off the update.

Hey @cloudres - thanks for taking the time to post on our Community and share your thoughts on this.

We haven't had any reports about any issues on this particular OS and you can let us know if you notice anything off if/when you decide to upgrade to that OS version.

If you come across anything off or a problem, let us know here and we'll take it from there.

I'll also leave the thread open for other users to jump in and share their own thoughts or experience as well.

Just upgraded to macOS Tahoe and the only app that's not working is Dropbox. It just keeps crashing. 🤦

Is it giving any kind of error message or does it suddenly crash?

Is there a particular action that triggers the crash? Any information you could provide would be super helpful

I just updated to Tahoe and am having the same issue. I tried reinstalling it and it's still crashing

Hey @ryhes34, can you also provide us with the info requested above? Are you receiving any errors, right before the Dropbox app crashes? Are you taking a specific action on the app, when the issue occurs?

Other than that, I’ll make our team aware of this in the meantime.

@Dell_Dropbox It repeatedly crashed without an error message. After reinstalling the Dropbox app, the issue disappeared.

It’s smart to hold off for now—Dropbox hasn’t confirmed full support for macOS Tahoe yet. Best to wait until they announce compatibility or early user feedback before upgrading.

Brand new AirBook, installed Tahoe yesterday.

Dropbox does not autostart after restarting the Mac.

If I try to run the app manually, it just opens a Finder session pointed on the Dropbox folder.

Reinstalled Dropbox from scratch, no effect.

I also have a slightly older Mac Mini, where I just installed Tahoe, it looks like on it Dropbox works normally

Thank you for letting us know. As you're all aware, these issues can arise with brand new OS releases.

Thankfully a fix should be live in the latest Beta Release if you all want to try installing.

I wrote the previous message at lunch (I am in Europe) and when I went back to work on my AirBook later in the evening I noticed that the Dropbox icon was in the top status bar and everything was working as expected.

I have no idea what happened: I did not even reboot the laptop or anything. The only possible explanation is that for some reason it took a few minutes before the app became active after the reinstallation, so I had already left my home when the icon appeared.

For what is worth you can now ignore my previous message: Dropbox runs normally on Taohe across all my devices, now.

Dropbox isn’t fully optimized for macOS Tahoe yet, which is why you’re seeing crashes. Try reinstalling the latest version from Dropbox’s site and ensure system permissions are granted. If it still fails, you may need to wait for an upcoming compatibility update from Dropbox.

Thanks for confirming. I’ll hold off on upgrading for now and will report back here if I notice any issues once I move to the new OS. It’ll also be helpful to hear from others who’ve already upgraded.

As of Beta Build 233.3.4870, Dropbox does not seem to be compatible with Mac OS Tahoe. Would appreciate addressing this.

We have not seen reports of any widespread issues with Tahoe. The discussion in this thread is largely the extent of it, and when considering how many people use the app we would typically see a lot more activity if there were a serious issue.

If you run into any issues after upgrading please let us know.

Hi from me as well, @tonysneed! Since you previously mentioned running the beta app version (233.3.4870), can you switch to the stable one instead and let me know if the error persists?

To do so, you’ll first need to turn off early releases via your General tab here, and then download the latest stable app version via this link.

For me, the Dropbox app displays a 12-hour Power 25% Energy Impact in the Activity Monitor, with approximately 25% bursts occurring every 60 seconds regardless of whether sync is enabled or not

All I needed to do was restart my computer for the Dropbox app to reconnect. This was necessary both for the beta version as well as the stable version.

A bug has been identified in the Electron framework used by the Dropbox desktop app that causes increased GPU usage and memory leaks on Macs running macOS 26 Tahoe.
This issue originates from the Electron team and cannot be fixed by Apple. Fortunately, the Electron team has already released a version that resolves the problem.

However, unless Dropbox updates its app to a newer version of the Electron framework, Macs running macOS 26 Tahoe will continue to experience GPU and memory leak issues when using Dropbox. Since Dropbox has not yet adopted the fixed version of Electron, it is currently not recommended to use Dropbox on macOS 26 Tahoe.

I just got a new MacBook Air M4 with Tahoe. My back up was Sequoia so now when I try to open the app it says I have to install Rosetta. Isn't there a Dropbox update for Tahoe I can download?
