Can I locally share my Dropbox folder on my Windows machine?

My wife and I have files we want to share that are in Dropbox and are synced to our computer in my local Dropbox folder. She has her own local account on the same machine and I want to know if I can locally share a folder from my synced Dropbox folder with her. Is it possible, and if so, are changes she makes going to be synced to Dropbox.com? I have looked at using Dropbox Family and the Family Room folder to do this, but if we both sync that folder it doubles the storage space used. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Hi @Willie602, it might be possible to share a folder from one computer profile to another on your Windows machine.

However, as this isn't directly related to Dropbox, we wouldn't be able to provide any specific steps on how to do this, as this would be a Windows feature.

Likewise, we wouldn't be able to predict how files would sync to your Dropbox account when any edits are made in the folder.

I'm assuming that her own local account is on a different OS profile, right? If not, then feel free to clarify.

The best way that I'd suggest would be for you to share the folder using these steps. Of course, she'd need to have available space in her account to add the folder.

Also, the changes should sync both to her local Dropbox folder, and her account online.

If you wish to do it using your OS, you should be able to do so, however the content you're sharing with her would need to be added in her local Dropbox folder in order for the changes to sync to her account too.

A little confusion. Right now, she does not have a Dropbox account. I want her to be able to access the folder (and the files within) on our Windows machine. That is why I am asking about locally sharing a synced folder with her from within my Dropbox folder that is in my Windows account on our machine. We each have a separate Windows account on our computer. If it can be done, it would mean that the files within this shared folder would not be duplicated on our hard drive. If this is even possible, the next question is whether any changes she made within that locally shared folder would be synced to my Dropbox.com account.
