Can't update to File Provider on Mac OS: some file types not supported.

I'm seeing in the Preferences -> Sync that I cannot use Dropbox for macOS on FIle Provider on one of my computers. I'm trying to figure out why it works on some computers and not others.

The message says:

Following the "Learn more" link leads me to an article that points out that Photos libraries, Final Cut projects and Logic Pro projects can't be synced with File Provider.

But, I don't think I have any of those. The closest I come is a directory named "Photos" but it is not a Photos Library.

Also, that directory appears on other computers with very similar specs (OS, architecture) to the machine in question. But, those computers use File Provider just fine.

Any hints? How can I determine which files it is complaining about?

What is the location of your Dropbox folder at the moment?

My Dropbox folder resides within my home folder. So, ~/Dropbox.

Hi,

I've got the exact same issue: I cannot upgrade to File Provider.

I use Dropbox V197.4.7629 in ~/Dropbox on macOS Sonoma 14.4.1. I don't have Final Cut or Logic Pro projects and the Photos app does not save into the Dropbox folder.

Can you please give assistance to solve the problem.

Sorry to hear this, @Max J.5. Can you also share with me the current syncing status of your Dropbox app?

All files are up to date, with no reported sync issues. All folders are synced, i.e. no selective sync is used; however, some files are synced online-only.

So I have the same issue and am getting the "You are not eligible for the new Dropbox for macOS on File Provider at this time" message.

I just was on chat and the gentleman on the chat box said "Unfortunately, that update is provided to your device when it is eligible. When your device is deemed eligible via Apple's eligibility and priority system, your receive a notification allow you to update."

After I asked for some clarification he said this update is issued by Apple who developed this update and that Apple "has it's own priority and eligibility system according to Apple devices." He then pointed me to Apple's customer service.

Is this truly an update coming from Apple? That makes zero sense to me.
