Hi again hannah
Dropbox just emailed me again saying I've used 80% of space and requesting me to update my plan and I need to make a payment, shall I ignore this.
Regards merry
As long as you are not over quota you are fine - just keep an eye on it 🙂
Hey there @Merry2 - thanks for using Dropbox and welcome to our Community!
Can you clarify where exactly you're getting this message? Is it In the app or on the website somewhere or in an email notification?
Also, can you take a look at your plan tab and let me know what it reports in regards to your quota?
Thanks!
Hi @Merry2, sorry to jump in here!
That email must have been an indication that you're slowly reaching your allocated quota.
You can see more about the content that's taking up space in your Dropbox account here.
In order to make up space for your account, you'd need to remove unwanted content. I hope this helps!
Hi, by remove do you mean delete? Is their anywhere on my phone I can put my stuff? I don't even understand what Dropbox is ?
Hey @Merry2, Dropbox is basically a service that stores and syncs your files across your devices.
If you're using 1.6 GB out of 2 GB, you have nothing to worry about; your files are safe.
If you want to reduce the amount of space you use on Dropbox, you could of course, delete some files.
You can save them to your device, before you delete them.
And you'd like to earn some bonus space, you can take a look at this page.
Hi hannah, thankyou btwere and how do isave stuff I want to keep?
Hey Merry!
I linked you some articles in my previous post, but here they are again, for your convenience.
If you want to save Dropbox files to your device, follow the steps here:
https://help.dropbox.com/installs/export-files-mobile
And if you then want to delete them, follow the steps here:
https://help.dropbox.com/delete-restore/delete-files
I hope this helps!

OK thankyou
Hi @pbxUser, let's jump right into this!
Keep in mind that my response might be a little lengthy, to cover all the questions you have.
First of all, no. Dropbox won't delete anything.
If your account becomes over quota all that should happen is that syncing stops. Dropbox will only sync until you hit your quota, so if you are over quota all that should happen is that Dropbox will not sync any new files.
You can always delete content, to bring your account storage below quota.
We will also not delete your account if you don't upgrade. As for shared folders: you can share and receive shared folders, as long as these folders don't exceed your storage space.
If you have 1GB available, that means you can receive content up to 1GB, no more.
Last but not least, yes, Dropbox will delete an account after approximately 1 year of inactivity. We always notify the users, in order for them to sign into the account, and keep it active if they need to prevent that.
I hope this clarifies!
As soon as you hit your limit it will stop syncing. So files above your storage space wont be uploaded to Dropbox and would stay on the devices themselves waiting for you to get more quota
No they wont be, all syncing will just stop.
