Clarifications regarding personal use plans vs business use plans

Hi,

I am trying to figure out a general outline of all the plans, and here are my finds.

Personal Use plans : (payed as an individual)

1. Basic 2 Gb 1 user free
2. Plus 2 TB 1 user
3. Family 2 TB 6 users
4. Professional 3 TB 1 user
5. Essentials 3 TB 1 user

Commercial Use plans: (payed as a company)

1. Essentials 3 TB 1 user
2. Business 9 TB 3 users+
3. Business Plus 15 TB 3 users+
4. Enterprise Custom Custom

But I also found another group of Business plans:

1. Professional 3 TB 1 user
2. Standard 5 TB 3 users+
3. Advanced 15 TB 3 users+

Questions:

1. I see Essentials as being both in the list of personal plans as well as in the group of company payed plans. Is it correct?

2. Is Professional plan a company payed plan or a personal payed plan?

3. Standard is the same thing as Business ? Advanced is the same as Business Plus? Or are they different?

4. The 3rd group of plans (Professional, Standard, Advanced) are all company payed plans?

5. Are there plans that can be both personal payed as well as company payed plans?

6. I also want to know if all business plans are company payed plans or there are exceptions (personal plans that can be company payed for, or business plans that can be personally payed for).

7. Do Work account mean is a business account? (see question 6 for exceptions)

Dropbox Essentials is mainly an individual account, which is more suited for work purposes.

Dear Hannah,

Dropbox Essentials is mainly an individual account, which is more suited for work purposes.

Work purposes means that it is payed for as a company? One man business account?

I believe this page, that has an overview of the new plans will give you a lot of the info you're looking for.

This page only shows those Business plans: Essentials, Business, Business Plus and Enterprise.

There is absolutely no mention or the "Standard" and "Advanced" plans, yet this page has information on them:

But there is absolutely no mention if Standard and Advanced plans in this link are business plans or not.

I am an IT professional writing an application that uses DropBox API and I want to be able to know which of all the plans in this link

can allow 3rd party applications to access Dropox API.

If you answer this last question all my problems/questions are solved, as I won't have to test out every single plan separately.

I appreciate the fast answer, but I would very much appreciate to take the time to answer this message as it would save me tons of work and testing hours.

Dear Hannah,

It seems that the information from the previous message is not entirely correct.

The error that prevented me from connecting to DropBox API is not because "I cannot connect to API using a basic account", which is INCORRECT, but for the fact that I selected the "Delete Files Permanently" option in the Permissions tab for an account that is not a business account.

In other words, my problem regarding the API is solved. Sorry if it caused any time loss..

It seems that the "Standard" and "Advanced" plans are nowhere to be found, so I assume that they are no longer valid, as they have been replaced with "Business" and "Business Plus" plans. Is this correct?

2. Also, my assumption is that "Essentials" is a 1 man business plan.

3. But "Professional" I am not sure if it can be used for both single user payment (no company, just for personal use) as well as for a business that only needs 1 single user.

Can you please help on those last 3 points?

It doesn't matter how it's paid or how it's used. Essentials in an individual plan meant for one person, not multiple people, and work purposes simply means that it includes some of the features normally found on the Business plans. Both the Professional and Essential plans are similar in this regard. They're typically used by business professionals, not Grandma saving pictures of her grand kids, though many people still use them for personal use. I am an individual, not a business, and I use a Professional plan for personal use only.

The Just need storage? link on that page leads to the other plans.

Basic, Plus Professional and Essentials are individual plans meant for one person. Professional and Essentials include some, but not all, of the features found in the Business plans. For this reason you will often see them listed along side the actual Business plans, but they're still meant for an individual.

Family is like the Plus plan, but shared among a group of people.

Standard, Advanced, Business, Business Plus and Enterprise are all Business accounts meant for a team of people.

The plans are separated like they are on the Dropbox website because some plans (Plus, Professional, Standard, Advanced) are best for those that just need storage and a few extra features, while other plans (Essentials, Business, Business Plus, Enterprise) have more functionality beyond storage (file tracking, signature requests, video editing and review, etc.).

Any plan can access the API.

No, that is not correct. Standard and Advanced are still available.

It doesn't matter who pays for it or how it's used. Only that it's meant for one person (it's not a team account).

I have been a loyal paying Dropbox customer for over a decade. I'm a CTO and have recommended Dropbox to hundreds of people over the last 15 + years.

Unfortunately, i can no longer afford Dropbox because I've reached a point in my plan that I'm now forced to purchase 3 users which doubles my cost.

I reached out to sales and they were unable to help me. Seems to me Dropbox does not care about their customers.

This leaves no tother choice but to go to Microsoft's One Drive as they offer a versatile subscription service that will fit my needs.

Dropbox got greedy.
