Dropbox search can’t find anything. The files, however, are there. How can I make Dropbox find them or reindex them???
Search is not working for me on my Mac with one file (codes.xls). The file is password protected but it has ALWAYS shown up in search. First, the file did not show up in search on my Mac, but the file is listed in its folder. I've gone to the folder. It is still there. I can open the folder. The file and data are intact. It has not been deleted, mistakenly or intentionally. But the file does not show up when I type the exact name, with or without the file extension, in the search box. I have screenshots. This seems inconceivable to me. It's a computer. Thanks for any help. I have deleted and reinstalled the dropbox app on my Mac. Same result.
Hey @ksandbe, thanks for nudging us on this thread.
Could you make sure that you're running the latest version of the desktop app and that you don't have any pending OS updates?
Same issue for me. I just found out that the search function is worthless. With the app and also through the Dropbox website, I am not able to find any file, although if I navigate manually through the folder structure, all files are there. I have been using Dropbox for many years and this is the first time this happens to me.
As I am away, I do need to be able to work without a desktop computer, so I rely on being able to work with my files using my iPad and iPhone.
same issue here, all my iphone, andriod, mac, new mac, destop, website app, also cannot search a file
serach still cant find existing files
i finally fixed the issue with just change the lang to english original.
insert of other country lang.
so stupid bug.
Hey, I am facing the similar issue. I know this is a year old thread but this is bugging me in 2022. I am facing search issues since last 10 days on both windows desktop and iPhone (latest version of ios). I have already cleared the cache in ios app but its not working.
Help awaited.
Thanks
@Nancy thanks for the prompt response.. Honestly I have nothing to fill in. In last 6 hours things got solved by it self.. I don't know how, but it just happened..All search results are coming up fine. As @Mmmooo mentioned it came back after a long week holiday
To your question, regarding desktop search, it was mirroring the iphone error, simply not showing any *.doc or *.txt files, just fetching pdf and folders. For Eg. I was to fetch a file myname.doc, the search simply got me myname.pdf or similar folders.
Thanks again.
Happy week end..
Hi @AMG24, that's awesome to hear! Have a lovely weekend ahead,enjoy! 😊
I'm having this same issue and it seriously hinders my work. I can also find files in the dropbox app on my iphone. I'm on Montery. Brand new Macbook pro computer system, only a few months old. Recent dropbox download. All up to date. I am so annoyed by this issue as I am the one that has sworn to all my friends that dropbox is king over all cloud apps. Ugh... if this keeps happening that rank is definitely not sticking. Can someone please help. Do I need to adjust the preferences?
Hi @photogirl007, let's see what we can find on this!
As a first step, please let me know the syncing status and version of your app.
Any screenshots of what you see when you use the app to search for some example file names, would be more than welcome.
Thanks a lot!
I'm seaching from the dropbox website.
Search is not searching for file names.
I have a folder starting with 9737, with dozens more files that start with 9737
nothing shows up when I search for 9737.
Hey @pukoh, I’m sorry to hear you’re having issues with this.
I’d like to ask you a few things first, so that we can isolate this.
Are you experiencing the same behavior from various browsers and/or when trying via an incognito window instead?
Also, do you mind sending over a screenshot of the results you see while searching and of the actual folder showing on your Dropbox account?
Give me a nudge when you’re ready.
The Dropbox search function hasn't been working on my computer or phone for the first time in all my years using Dropbox. It has been about 24 hours now, and I am STILL waiting for Dropbox to resolve the issue. The customer service is quite slow and their specialist has still not gotten back to me (the chat agent was very helpful but couldn't resolve it after troubleshooting). It just keeps saying "no search results found" despite these being commonly searched files. It's clearly an error on Dropbox's end. The agent had me check another browser and incognito windows...same thing. I also logged out and logged in, nothing. Restarted my computer, nothing. On the phone app, every search just says "zero results." I just wanted to register this here.
Hey @mpintomali & @Lorca55 - sorry to hear you're having issues with the search function in your Dropbox accounts.
Can you please send us a screenshot with a sample search term and the results you'd expect to find and clarify how long have you been having this issue?
Also, @mpintomali if you could share your ticket's ID, it would help us locate it in our system.
Keep us posted!
Thank you for your reply, Walter. The search function is still completely not working on either phone or computer, and Dropbox customer service has been awful. It is now Tuesday and the problem started on Sunday. This is the ticket: https://www.dropbox.com/support/ticket/18158800 (there is an image attached). John, the Dropbox specialist, said it's a known issue but left open when it will be resolved. It's quite frustrating, since I feel like I'm paying for a service that I'm not receiving and that I very much need. The search function has worked flawlessly for years, and I've searched for numerous files and folders. Now, anything I search comes up as "No search items found" (computer) or "No results" (phone).
If there is anything you can do to assist, I would be deeply appreciative. Thank you.
@Walter
Thanks for the ticket ID @mpintomali
I looked it up in our system and passed your comments on to the expert who's handling your case.
You should be hearing from them soon, but please let us know if you have anything else to add in the meantime.
Hi Walter,
Thank you so much.
It's still not working and it's a frustrating situation, since it's now Tuesday afternoon. Sometimes the search results give a bizarre set of documents (just a few results and only from recent dates), but mostly it's "no results found" over and over again. So the problem persists. John the specialist wrote back but very briefly. This is what he said:
"I just wanted to update you and let you know our engineers are still working on this. I'll get back to you as soon as I have more information."
You can see the ticket for his full message, but that's the essence of it.
I hope you can reach out to the engineers and please convey to them how disruptive this is. I cannot do my work properly without this search function.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Michelle
