New iOS version today says I can now get rid of the Preview pane but HOW? Waited so long for this and now I can't work out how to do it!!
Hi Ian,
The feature is still rolling out. You'll see it soon as a X button in the top left of the preview pane.
Ok so I’m confused. So despite the app update telling me the facility is available, it isn’t?
how will it “roll out”? Do I have to wait for another app update?
thanks
Sorted! The cross only seems to be visible in portrait mode, although the change persists when you switch back to landscape.
Glad to hear your sorted this out @Ian_A6!
Just a quick note on this is that this option is available for iOS's v.92.2 onwards and some of our other improvements include a better text file support since the previewing is improved and we also introduced text editing for more than 120 file extensions!
Thanks for using our iOS mobile app and have a great day ahead!

Is there a list of those extensions anywhere?
Are you still seeing the X only in portrait orientation? Which tab are you on (Home, Files, etc), and is there a file open in the right pane? If so, what type of file is it?
yes. open any document by clicking on the left-hand side list and the X should be visible on the right-hand side. If not just rotate to portrait mode. The state seems to persist until you fully close the app - when you re-open the app you have to do this again, which hopefully they will give an option in future (although given how long it took to get this done, I wouldn't hold your breath)
Thanks for the response Ian - I'm specifically asking whether the X disappears for you in landscape mode. If so, any other details would be appreciated so that we can investigate, as we haven't been able to reproduce this issue.
The X appears to be present regardless of the orientation now although this definitely wasn't the case initially - it's too obvious to have been missed.
Thanks
Thanks for letting me know! I think it might just be because the feature was still rolling out so you caught the update while the app was running, but anyway I'll definitely keep an eye for this.
@Rich I am looking into this and I will make sure to update this thread once I get my hands on more specific information about this.
Awesome. Thanks, @Ross_S!
Hello David Z - as this is a year after the posts above, I'm not sure if you will see this.
I have the same issue Ian had - I'm using an Ipad Pro running IOS 12.2. I like Dropbox, it's great. But when my Ipad is on it's bluetooth keyboard, by necessity, as the connectors are on the bottom, it is in landscape mode. When in landscape, on each folder and file, the box with options doesn't show. I have to click on each one and it only does one at a time. However, when I turn my Ipad to portrait mode, instantly in a flash all the boxes appear and it's a million times easier and faster to check and move the files into folders (I've got over 14,000 still to examine and move so it matters to me how quick this process is). But the thing is, I can't use my bluetooth connector keyboards if I need to keep the Ipad upright in Portrait mode. Just wondering if there is a way around this - getting it to be teh same in Landscape as Portrait on Ipad Pro 12.2. Thanks much! Kind regards
@piperjames - I tried a few things that I thought you might be describing, but don't see anything off. Can you post a screenshot of the problem you're seeing?
Hello David, yes I am happy to do so. I will take video of Ipad A with Ipad B and post it, if this site permits that, because then you can see it in real time. Thank you!
Since updating my iPad Pro to iOS 13.1, I have been unable to close the pop-up window on the right pane. There used to be an 'x' to close the window but not anymore. Consequently I am unable to allow the list of files to be full screen. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Hello @wonton46! :taco:
Welcome to Community and thanks for reporting the issue you are facing here.
What version of Dropbox you have there?
How much space is left in your iPad device?
As a first step please reboot your device and let me know if things get better after that.
Thank you! :nerd:
I have rebooted the iPad. There is 231 GB space available and I am using 158.2.6 version of Dropbox.
Thank you for the additional info.
If rebooting didn't fix it, next step is to reinstall. No worries, reinstalling the application will not affect your files.
Let me know if the issue persists.
I deleted Dropbox and reinstalled and still have the same issue
Thank you for getting back to me about this. Is the "x" missing completely or just not responding?
Can I reach out to you via email to further check on this please?
I can use the address you have associated with your account in Community.
Yes the "x" is totally missing. Yes you may contact me. Thank you.

@wonton46 I have emailed you to further work on this. :envelope:
Please respond to the email. If you can't see the email, check the spam and get back to me here to let me know.
Hi @tutu! Thank you for adding your report to this relevant thread. Let me know if you have already tried to reinstall and the version of Dropbox you are running. Did the issue with the "x" missing appear after your latest update?
Thanks!
After the recent iOS update to 13.1.1, the "x" is now missing from the preview pane. Again, it is no longer possible to collapse the preview pane in iPad app. Is there a new solution for collapsing the preview pane that I may have overlooked? Thanks!
In the latest version of Dropbox for iPad, v 160 (got it on Sep 27,2019) the X on the split screen when looking at the larger size of a thumbnail photo has disappeared. This stops me from going back to full screen files or thumbnail photos. This is a real pain as now I am restricted to 3 wide only colum of thumbnails...
how can I get the X (close) back or is this a bug?
Hello @KateRobert - welcome to our Community!
At first, could you send me a screenshot of how this looks like on your end and the steps you take that result in this so I can investigate further?
In addition, have you by any chance tried to reboot your iPad to see if this resolves this matter?
Moreover, could you please try to clear the cache on your app and then sign out and back into your Dropbox account to make sure we've covered all bases?
To clear your cache, please follow the steps listed below:- Navigate to the “Personal” tab- Tap the gear icon in the upper-left corner of the screen- Select “Clear Cache”
Once this is done then please ensure you log out of the Dropbox application, then restart your device and log back in again.
Let me know how this goes and we'll take it from there.
EDIT: I merged your post under this thread as the issue you described seem to be related with the one outlined here.
