I'm trying to send a link to someone and I have the file saved to my dropbox but I don't have the option to share the dropbox link. This just started as I shared a link a few weeks ago.
Hey folks,
This might be because we're interfering with other Finder extensions (Creative cloud etc) you may have running on your computer.
While we're working on fixing the bug with Apple, you *could* disable the other Finder extensions in System Preferences > Extensions > Finder:
are you sure the file is in your Dropbox folder? Do you see the other options ("view on dropbox.com"?)
Mine is gone too. Has been for a week or two. Since I updated OSX it now only lets me share via Apple or other services...but no Dropbox
@Brian C, did you check to make sure the file is saved in your Dropbox folder on your Computer?
I am also having the same problem and it just started happening. I no longer see the Share Dropbox link
I am experiencing this as well. I use this feature all the time, and today it's gone. I did verify that the file I want to share is in my Dropbox folder. Can someone please help us with this question? Thanks!
Having this problem too. I'm running OSX 10.7.5 and Dropbox 3.8.8.
It appears I have lost "Finder integration" I no longer see sync status icons next to my files, or have access to Dropbox's contextual menu options by right-clicking on files.
According to this Dropbox help document, I should not be affected as it states:
"This issue only affects Macs that have OS X 10.10 Yosemite installed and have installed the Dropbox desktop client. This does not affect users running OS X version 10.9.5 or lower."
Please help! Sharing files and folders are a real inconvenience without the contextual menu options.
Roy R, do you have Dropbox running and synced? Is the Dropbox app logo in the system tray at the top of your mac (on the right side, near the date and time)?
Any additional info / a screenshot would really help.
Hello Anvisha,
Thank you for the quick reply. Yes, Dropbox is running and in my menu bar (see attached screen grab) and my files are syncing.
Note, however, no green check marked file icons, nor an ability to access the contextual menu via right clicking to share a folder/file.
I rebooted my computer and the menu options returned. I'm running Yosemite.
Rebooting worked once for me. But have since rebooted multiple times (I shut my Mac down daily) and the problem persists.
After restarting my Mac this morning, Finder Integration is currently working. Not sure how or why it returned, but glad it did. Fingers crossed that it continues to do so. :-)
What the heck is going on, Dropbox? After restarting my Mac this morning, Finder Integration is not working again.
Yes, Mine has disappeared, after using it successfully for some time. No reason why. DROPBOX please help. Dropbox pro version 3.10.7
I have been having similar problem. One solution (not ideal) is that if you actually have the file open you should (in the new version of Dropbox) see the blue Dropbox symbol on the side of the open window. Click this - click share link. Then you can paste the link in emails etc. See screen shot below with Dropbox options opened. Note this will only work if the file is saved in Dropbox already, otherwise you will not see the symbol. Hope this helps.
Cignet D. That is all well and good for word files (Dropbox ICON also missing for me there now as well), but what about PDF, jpg, etc? The list goes on. I have same issue on both my MACs. The context menu works occasionally, but not most off the time. Very frustrating. Have tried every fix I can find but there is not much out there for El Capitan. Rebooting does not work. Have the latest version for MAC (3.12.6). Wondered if OneDrive may have been interfering but uninstalled it and problem persists. C'mon dropbox. What happened? What is the fix?
I just found that I've also lost the capability to use the contextual-click method of creating a shared file. I had to get the link to share by accessing our Dropbox account via the website. I haven't tried re-starting the iMac (current version 10.11.3 of El Capitan) since I just read that potential solution.
UPDATE: I restarted the iMac, and the contextual choices for sharing via Dropbox from the desktop have returned. Strange.

Thank you, Anvisha. The only Finder extensions that I have are the ones for Creative Cloud and Dropbox which are listed in System Preferences > Extensions > Finder. So far, I haven't lost the Dropbox menu choices yet since I last re-started. You don't think that running Cocktail by Maintain could cause a problem?
I think it's more likely the Creative Cloud finder extension. Anyway, I'm glad to hear this is working for you- hopefully it's not flaky in the future!
Thank you, Anvisha. I started my computer today, and the "Share link via Dropbox" and similar are still present, so I didn't have to turn off any finder extensions such as Creative Cloud, Sophos Security, and 1Password. Good luck in correcting the problem.
Hi, same problem as above guys but i don't have any extensions in the menu (as pictured)........ any help appreciated please.
Steven
same problem as Steven A. is happening to me the past few months. No share drop box link in the dropdown menu. No green check marks next to my files. Really frustrating when you pay for PRO and can't even easily share the files! Dropbox c'mon help us out!
I'm running Mac OS X 10.7.5
Having this same issue, no option for "share" in the contextual menu, and no green check next to files in the folder...
Is there a SOLID fix for this other than a restart?
Anyone from Dropbox chime in on this??
I have half of this problem -- no "share" option in the dropdown menu from Finder, but files seem to synch properly and Finder displays the green check next to them.
Dropbox is the ONLY Finder extension I have.
I'm running 10.10.5 (Yosemite).
Will definitely consider other file sharing options; this is annoying.
Same issue after installing El Capitan. I just had to open my dropbox app and re-signin.
Hope that helps, maybe I just got lucky
Thanks Cyril, that worked for me!
For anyone (like me) who isn't sure how to quit the Dropbox app, it is in the "system tray" (the line of icons where the clock, wifi icon, volume control, etc are), rather than the dock. Right click on the Dropbox icon, and then click on the gear icon in the bottom right corner of the window that drops down. Quit should be an option in the dropdown menu. You can then relaunch Dropbox from the icon in your Applications folder. After doing this, the share option reappeared in the r-click menu from Dropbox files for me.
Don't know if this answer if redundant from the others, but I have this problem , too. I can share via email, or airdrop, plus others, but just want to share a link. So don't forget you can do at your dropbox website account - very easily, but, yes, you have to navigate to the website and log in.
The option to copy and attach a link to an email to a client has gone....?? I'm running on Windows 7 so I am assuming an update has taken place and this issue has occurred. I have tried re-booting my PC but nothing has changed. How long are before you guys are planning on sorting out this mjajor issue??
Thanks Julia K. that worked for me - thanks all SO MUCH - lifesaver!
I switched from Safari to Firefox and my share button returned so happy!!
I spoke to a senior Apple advisor and that was what he suggested...
