How do I silence the sound for syncing notifications?
You can actually go to Settings, Select Notifications & Actions and then scroll down where the Dropbox icon is shown and turn off the noticiation settings (Banners and Sounds)
You can actually click on it and select what you want to have with Notifications
I am wondering this as well. I still want to see the notification, but I want to turn it's sound off without muting my computer.
The same thing is happening to me. Dropbox will give me a notification sound, but I can't get it to stop the sound. I still want to be notified. I'm having to mute my computer also.
Any answer? The new settings are f...ing annoying
Bump.
About to set DropBox to permanent pause
http://www.howtogeek.com/219703/how-to-disable-notification-sounds-in-windows-10/
I went into Windows Sounds and located the "Notification" sound, then turned it to none
Would that turn off notifications for things though other than my Dropbox?
"Would that turn off notifications for things though other than my Dropbox?"I just tried this, and you can turn off the sound just for Dropbox notifications if you like: From the Action Centre, click "All Settings" --> "System" --> "Notifications & Actions"Scroll down until you see Dropbox, click on it and turn off "Play a Sound when a notification arrives".
i actually went the old-skool way to kill the sound associated with that notification, which i think is what Kristin is asking about. In theory that would turn off other notifications, but i wasn't aware of others using that sound, and if they did i'm glad i fixed them too!
to test you could change that sound to something REALLY distinctive, then notice when it is triggered. then change it to NONE if you want to get rid of it
I used Yvonne C's method, but on my computer, it didn't work exactly as she wrote:
I clicked Settings - System - Notifications & Actions, and scrolled down to 'Dropbox', en there, I could set all notifications to 'on' or 'off'. So it's the same as the setting in the Dropbox app itself: no sound means no notifications at all....
I want a notification, but not sound! Please, Dropbox-developers, help us out!
:-)
Laura, did you click on the word 'Dropbox'? That gets me three slider options.
Notifications. on/off
Show notification banners. On/off
Play a sound when a notification arrives. On/off
Yvonne's method worked for me. Dropbox was there twice so I clicked on each one and turned sounds to off but left the others on. I now get the box with a notification but no sound.
Thanks Yvonne C. Your solution worked perfectly on Windows 10.
Any way to turn this sound off in Windows 8? This seems new, I never got this insistent bonging before that I remember. I have one program that saves it's data file every 10 seconds, seemingly, it's data file lives in Dropbox, and the whole time I'm in the program (MS Money Sunset Edition) it bongs every 10 seconds. Very annoying.
Thank you, Yvonne! I didn't even see I could click Dropbox to get more options! It works.
Perfect solution Yvonne and Laura H: I went through settings to get to the sound (only) notification for DB. Now I get the visual notification but not the sound.
Thanks Yvonne, you saved my friendship with the guy in the office next to me.
Windows 10:
From Windows icon (bottom left screen or Window key on keyboard):
Select "Settings" -- right above "Power"
Select "System"
Select "Notifications & Actions"
Scroll down to Dropbox and turn it off.
Yvonne C.'s method works perfectly for Windows 10. Thanks, Yvonne.
I'd like to know how to do this in Linux, if anyone knows how. I would also encourage the Dropbox team to revisit the decision that these notifications should, as a default setting, be noisy.
Oh here I am, a year later and with 2016 programs.....I can get to Dropbox settings fine, but there is NO System link to click. And yes, the BONG is really irritating. Any ideas where I'd find System?
Hi Kate, if you are running Windows 10 (even after the current update that came out), the instructions I posted earlier in this thread should still apply. You will not find those settings in the Dropbox settings, but rather in your computer's settings.
For those not familiar with the Action Centre, you can also get there by following Michael S.'s instructions above through the Start Menu (Windows icon). Then scroll down until you find Dropbox, and click on the word "dropbox" to access the sliders and choose which notifications (sounds and/or banners) you want on or off.
Yvonne C. method worked. "Settings" was indeed what the option was called on my Windows 10 machine. TYpe "settings" in window search box and it will bring up an option that says "Settings: Trusted Windows App store". Then click "System" > "Notification & actions". Then click "Dropbox" and change the setting for "Play sound when notification arrives" to "off".
I did all this a few months back. Now, the annoying notification is back. And, Dropbox isn't listed in the settings/notifications. The only items listed are outlook, photos (not dropbox) and a few others such as calendar.... any updates on how to fix this? Thank you!
I've been having the same issue as Samantha for months! I've turned the DB sound notification off dozens of times, and all of a sudden that incredibly irritating sound starts again, and I have do redo, redo, redo! Another Windows 10 issue?
I suspect your only option is to turn off the "notification".
Thanks, Rick. But as described above, I've turned off the DB notification in settings any number of times. It turns itself back on.
could it be an OS notice from Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\AutoPlay
? Dropbox "Preferences" Import Tab can take you there.
I want to turn off the SOUND notifications. The Dropbox setting message is about SHOWING notifications, which I want. @%%$& sound???
I don't know if this started when I switched to Win 10 or if Dropbox made a change but it's super annoying. I'll try the solutions others listed above but I suggest Dropbox look up the definition of "show" and understand it doesn't include SOUND pollution.
I just figured it out! click on the dropbox icon on your task bar> settings icon in upper right of box > preferences > general > UNCHECK show desktop notifications > apply> ok and you should be good to go
