Copy public link is not working on dropbox.com

Hi I've been using that COPY PUBLIC LINK from dropbox.com for years and at first it used to actually copy it to the windows copy buffer as it should. Over the past couple of months it would pop the address as it should but it stopped being able to automatically copy to the copy buffer, but luckily i could still do it myself manually by manually selecting the text and hitting ctrl-c. In the latest build of dropbox.com, it doesn't even list the address to the file anymore and obviously it couldn't copy to the buffer beforehands but now i can't do it manually either!

so i can't share any files from dropbox.com right now! I've tried in both google chrome and firefox and same issue with both. As for which version of windows i'm running, it's the up to date win10.... Thanks in advance.

The shorten link function has been removed from Dropbox. This has been slowly happening for the last couple of years as the feature was removed from various parts of the service. If you would like to continue to shorten any of your links, you will want to look for services that focus specifically on providing that feature, such as bit.ly or goo.gl.

It seems to be working fine here. Try clearing your browser's cache/browsing history and try again, or try another browser.

I can't get any response from the Copy Public Link option or the Share button. I'm using Windows 10 with latest 1607 anniversary update.

I am experiencing the same issue. There seems to be a work around I can use but it is not pulling the information properly either as a shared link. I was thinking they pulled out the ability to properly share this information without having a subscription.

Using this shortcut of course means you have to log in so ignore me on that.

So I know I am posting a lot but there is a work around but it involves a bit more typing.

from there you select the folders all the way down to the item you want. The *'s represent my dropbox user id you would have yours there.

So for example without being able to COPY this link I can share it by typing in how to get to it in my drop box.

So this image was in my public folder, if I had it in a folder in my public it would look more like this:

I know this is not the feature we like to use but this is a work around until they fix it?

Same here, please fix this asap gosh. Also for those who have spaces in their file names you can use "%20" as below:

Same problem. I logged in from different computers and different browsers. Also tried to go directly into the file folder and copy link with a mouse right click and still does not work. Really need a fix so I can send files that are needed asap.

I've also been using the COPY LINK feature for years as well as the shorten link. Last week I noticed that the shorten link was not working which was no biggie but now the copy link does not work at all. Please fix!!!

I have the same issue as well and it makes Dropbox nearly useless as I can no longer upload my images to the web using the public link.

Does anyone know of any work around until it's fixed, as Photobucket is rubbish?

Same, and I am using it for work purposes. This is pretty hurt that this issue has gone on this long. I've tweeted at their support as well as their main account in hopes it will be brought to their attention faster.

Dear Sirs, for years I copy a link for sharing my videos with the option of shorten the link,

this useful feature is gone - I can't understand why.

But worse, now when I click the link, instead of a black window on the browser on full HD,

the link send you to a white windows inside (?) dropbox, and the video is not on HD!

Are this changes on Dropbox or is just a fail of my system?

Very annoying issue. I've just been sending a 'share folder' link which contains the files (zips) instead of what I would normally send as individual links. Hope it's resolved asap!

I'm having the exact same issue and until they fix it, it has effectively crippled my ability to use Dropbox.

Like others have mentioned, I've tried multiple web browsers and the ability to copy public links just doesn't work on ANY of them. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed ASAP.

If not, I expect Dropbox will seriously suffer, as that is such a basic function that everyone I know that has a Dropbox account makes use of (and I know a lot of people with Dropbox accounts).

I don't have the time to play with this workaround, there are other services that do teh same as dropbox did, select a file, and copy the damned link, if it doesn't work tomorrow I'll have to move my entire database to a different service provider because i need to work and have constant access to my database.

I don't have the time to fiddle with typing into the link when even google drive never has this issue (aside from security issues, otherwise I would use theirs service).

We noticed last week that only the long URL worked, the short URL option did not generate the URL as usual. This week the copy shared link does not work at all. Apparently we are in the same boat as others. DropBox we all need for you to fix this broken feature.

Sorry but "very annoying" doesn't come close to capturing the seriousness of this problem which is now several days old and symptomatic of a larger configuration management and testing problem.

I love DropBox. But I want some love in return. And I want it now.

I have the same problem. A "work around" I was not aware of does help me for now, perhaps it can help others that have responded here:

I go to the file I want to have the public link from using my Windows File browser:

Next I use the right-click function to open up a follow up menu:

Next I click "Copy public link" (the menu is in Dutch, it's the option "Openbare link kopiëren.." and the link is properly put in the clipboard.

This works for me for now, hopefully some of you are helped with this temporary work around as well, it seems DropBox is now well aware of the problem in the web environment and working on it.

I opened the Dropbox folder on my computer and then right clicked on the picture I wanted and chose "copy public link". It copied the correct link and my picture posted the way I wanted it to.

I'm not using the software app because I use the external web browser as storage for work stuff.

I have access to dropbox from work so i don't need to do this and have gazilion copies of the same files, cuz that basically kills the idea of having access to your files externally.

Than, while most of users will apreciate this solution, I am currently moving files to another service, because it seems i'll need to drop the box.
