Is Drop box only for folders and files or can it also back up my desktop computer programs and applications?

Your Dropbox account can accommodate any files or folders you upload and as for backing up your computer's programs and applications, could you elaborate a tad on what you'd like to achieve?
Are you looking to store the app folders or the data you're handling through those apps/programs?
