Why did Dropbox create a new folder on my computer, after I accidentally logged out of the app?

Not realizing what I was doing I logged out of dropbox on my computer. After logging right back in, dropbox made me pick a different location on my machine. Why would it do this? Now I have dropbox in two different locations on my computer… I've been using dropbox for almost 10 years, but the amount of quirky issues I've had in the past 6 months has me looking at other solutions. Began using wasabi for longterm storage and it works great.  Has anyone got any solutions for how to make Dropbox use the original storage location on my machine?

While signing back into your desktop app, there should be an “Advanced Settings” link that you can click on to select your existing Dropbox folder (before the Dropbox app creates a new one).

The only thing to keep in mind is to select the correct filepath, when choosing your existing Dropbox folder. For example, if your Dropbox folder is located at “D:\OtherDrive\Folder\Dropbox”, you should choose “D:\OtherDrive\Folder”; otherwise, Dropbox will create a new folder within the old one.

After you've completed the sign-in process and the desktop app is up to date, you can check your old Dropbox folder to make sure everything is looking good and delete the new one that was created in the meantime.
