Hi all,
My company uses Dropbox to store and transfer a large collection of CAD files (Autodesk Inventor). I'm hoping someone can help with two issues we've been having.
Issue 1: Restored files are not the most recent version
A few months ago I selectively unsynced ~700 GB of files from my local storage to free up space. Recently I went to restore some of those folders via Selective Sync, and found that several .ipt (Inventor part) files were not the most up-to-date version.
To rule out a local sync issue, I also tried downloading the same files directly from dropbox.com (web version), and those downloads were also not the latest version. This has happened on multiple files, not just one isolated case.
- Are there known conflicts between Selective Sync and version history for large CAD file sets?
Issue 2: "File is being used by another process" errors when saving .ipt files
Several team members have run into errors saving .ipt files, with Windows/Inventor reporting the file is "being used by another process." This happens intermittently, not on every save.
- Could Dropbox's background sync process be locking files while it indexes or uploads changes, causing this conflict with Inventor?
We currently have a Dropbox Business Account with four PCs on Windows 10/11 syncing the same folders and files. Happy to provide or clarify any details if need be. Thank you in advance for the help! :)
