Unable to save my Excel files. "Upload failed, sorry this didn't work error"

Question

Since August 17 every time I try to save a copy of a spreadsheet to Dropbox I get a message saying "Upoad Failed We're sorry this didn't work.  Try saving again later and if it still doesn't work, Click Save a Copy"

But when I click "Save it copy" the Copy fails to upload too.

Just to summarize the issue, it looks like you are encountering an error when trying to save an Excel file.

Do you edit your files using the Dropbox desktop app, or via the online version on the Dropbox site? It sounds like you are using the desktop app, I just want to make sure.

If you are editing the file locally, please ensure that both Dropbox and Excel are fully updated. Could you please check this and let me know which versions you are using? To find your Dropbox desktop app version, check here.

Provided that you are using the Dropbox desktop app, can you try quitting the app and then saving the file? Do you notice the same behavior when the app isn't running?

Also, do you use any other third-party apps, such as OneDrive, that monitor your files? If so, can you temporarily close them?

Other .xlsx files have no problems.  Just this file and any copy I make of it.

The .xlsx file is only 590kb on disk
