Dropbox is stuck syncing 42K files, but I can access my files on other devices.

Dropbox is stuck syncing 42K files and some files have disappeared from my local desktop folders. All my files are on the Dropbox site and I can access my files through other devices (laptop and iPad). I have tried fixing links and permissions, signing out and in, restarting my computer, and more. Nothing is working. I am working on a Mac Mini with an Apple M1 chip and the OS is Tahoe 26.5.1 (the latest). Thanks, and help!

Could you let me know the app's exact status and version as shown in your menu bar, when you hover your mouse over the little Dropbox icon?

Also, if you click on your avatar in the app's preferences and select 'View sync issues', do you see any files listed there? Please let me know if your Dropbox folder is located in the CloudStorage location.

If you add a file inside your Dropbox folder, does it sync to your account online?

If none of that works, please try the following steps in order to unlink, and relink your desktop app:

-Visit your account's security settings online.
-Under Devices, find the device you’d like to unlink.
-Click the trash can icon next to that device.
-Click Unlink to confirm.

Hey there, @Peacekatz, let's jump right into this!

As a first step, can you please confirm your Dropbox desktop app version and its syncing status? You can find this by hovering your mouse over the Dropbox icon in your menu bar, next to your WiFi.

Could you also let me know where your Dropbox folder is currently located on your machine, and how long has the app been stuck syncing content?

Do you have any proxy, VPN, firewall, security software, or even ISP/router settings that could be restricting traffic to the following Dropbox domains? If you do, try temporarily disabling those, to see if that helps.

While we're at it, have you tried adjusting your bandwidth settings to see if that helps improve matters for you? Lastly, I’d also like you to right-click on your local Dropbox folder directly, select “Get info” and send me a screenshot of the next window you’ll see.

Let me know more, and we'll take it from there!

Thank you! The desktop app version is 256.4.3790. The folder has been stuck for about 24 hours. I'm not sure how to answer the question of where the folder is. My VPN is off, and I'm not sure about a firewall. I'm attaching a screenshot as requested.

It says Dropbox 256.4.3790 Indexing 42,283 files …

There are no sync issues

The location of my folder is: /Users/mkatz/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox

I added a file and it didn't sync to my account online.

Should I try to unlink and relink?

Hi @Peacekatz!

Once you unlink using the steps I provided above, you might want to restart your device first, and then re-link the Dropbox desktop app.

To do this, simply reopen the app and allow it a few moments to re-index and sync the changes. If the issue persists, just let me know and we'll go from there.
