How to keep original photo file names when uploading from iPhone to Dropbox

Question

How do I prevent Dropbox from renaming my uploaded photo file names to date/time? It is important information that I would like to preserve as I need to tie photo numbers I read on my phone to documents in real time. Renaming them back to the original file name takes too much back end work.

ie) IMG_001.jpg is renamed to  Photo 2026-07-22, 1 56 58 PM.jpg on Dropbox

Also the original photo number is not part of the metadata that is stored when there is other less useful data that uploads just fine.

While there's no way to stop your photos from getting renamed per se, a workaround could be to use our naming conventions feature.
