Hi everyone,
I’m facing a persistent issue with my Dropbox desktop client on Windows. The app is stuck at "Indexing 749 files" and has not made any progress for over 36 hours. I have already tried a series of deep troubleshooting steps guided by Gemini (AI), but nothing seems to resolve the hang.
Here is a list of what I have already performed:
- Cleared the Hidden Cache: Deleted everything inside the
%HOMEPATH%\Dropbox\.dropbox.cache folder. - Permissions Reset (icacls): Ran the command prompt as Administrator and reset full control permissions for my user across both the
%HOMEPATH%\Dropbox and %APPDATA%\Dropbox directories. - Account Unlinking: Unlinked my account and relinked it to force a database rebuild.
- Full Reinstall: Uninstalled the app and performed a clean installation.
- Filename Verification: Checked for incompatible characters, trailing spaces, or exceptionally long file paths.
The only test I was unable to do is to check Dropbox indexing log. Gemini told me to hold alt (or shift) while clicking on Configuration button, but that didn't work.
Despite these steps, the counter remains frozen at 691 files. I have "only" 136.000 files on my Dropbox folder.
Has anyone encountered a specific "stuck" number like this before? Are there any specific log files I should look into to find exactly which file is causing the bottleneck?
Windows 10 / Dropbox 250.4.3245
Thanks in advance for the help
